Leather - retain the new car look.
As the title says, what are you guys applying to your leather interior to retain that new car matt look. I don't want a shiny driver's seat or shiny steering wheel so wanted to know if there is anything worth applying now to keep the matt look long term.
I was looking at the Gyeon Leather Shield. Any thoughts or advice appreciated. |

I have used alot of different types and would recommend Gliptone: https://www.liquidleather.co.uk/ However I have yet to use it on this car so can't give you an opinion of being matt or not as that depends on individual leather properties

I'm really looking to seal in the matt look of the new leather and retain that look long term. I've used Gliptone before to restore seats. It's superb but not sure its the right product in this instance.

I use Leather Master Soft Cleaner on my steering wheel and seats and then their Protection Cream on my 2015 M3 with the same merino leather twice per year. Will do the same for the X3M. But I have black so it's easier to maintain in my opinion. I've seen others use newer products but haven't tried them.

Never used anything, warm water microfiber cloth.
Give the leather surface a wipe down every week or so. Been doing this for the past 20+ years on all color from black to bright white. Never had an issue with color transfer, cracking or going shiny. Always retained the matte look. |

I used Gyeon Leather Shield on my M2 and was so impressed with it I applied it to my X3M. I always dislike how leather steering wheels start getting shiney over time from the oils in your hands and after a while it becomes difficult to get back to its original state even with cleaners. My M2 steering wheel 1.5 years after applying still looked brand new without cleaning of any sort in between. It's a great product and reduces the need for cleaners as if needed you can go over it with a warm damp cloth and it will look like new again.

Good to hear it works well. Think I'll do the rest of the leather inc steering wheel at the weekend. |

Same, but inevitably wear will turn it shinier over the course of many years, which I don’t really mind. It’s owner’s patina and as long as there aren’t wrinkles/cracks, it’s an acceptable sign of it getting used for its intended purpose.

I have used these for years. Allow it the dry and it is definitely a matt finish. Worked superbly on the black leather in our M3.

My wife's X5 coated with carpro dlux now 85k on it and still looks new. Monthly removal of car seats and wipe down with damp cloth no staining or weird wear and also helps with removing the jeans colour transfer also comes off with just damp cloth. I did 4 layers on all surfaces with 1.5 hours between layers in a 17c temp space.

I've used Gyeon leather shield and I like the way that you cant notice the product has been applied when it drys, and leaves the leather looking as new

I just use warm water too, with a couple of drops of Fairy.
When the leather goes shiny it is a builkd up of dead skin and grease compressed into it, you want to get that out, not add more crap too it. Sure some will hide it......for a few days, but that is all it is doing. You can use Woolite mixed 1:10 with warm water, works really well if it is dirty. If the car is old, like 10-15 years old and 120k miles, I use engine degreaser mixed 1:5 with warm water and a soft bristle brush to work it in, it can get the hardest, shiniest looking seats looking factory matte again. Remember, you are getting stuff off the leather, so adding more product is not the best idea. Oh, and 95% of all leather is spray painted with a top coat, conditioning it is simply not possible. |
