The F90 M5 gets better mileage. The X3M might have the worst fuel economy in the entire BMW lineup.

Maybe shorter gear ratio, being an SUV so it has to have some towing capability while F90 M5 is pure sedan/car

Depends on driving habits. I'm yet to see any projected numbers to be accurate on any Beamer I've ever owned....I got incredible highway gas mileage on my '17 X5M (21-22MPG)but as an everyday street driver it sucked ...(at best 12-13MPG) #drivinghabitsmatter lol
