Emotional Support Thread - G01 at the dealer more than my driveway...
I picked up a CPO M40i 3.5 weeks ago and within a week the engine light came on. Turned out to be exhaust intake manifold issue (edit: this is incorrect, I don't know what the first code was for), but when working on it they got another fault that was related to the ABS. Parts are on backorder...
So, I had the car for 1.5 weeks and the dealer has had it for 2 weeks now... I have a fine enough loaner, but that's some bad luck right there... Last edited by xylodan; 04-23-2021 at 11:21 PM.. |

Ongoing...
I had the CPO for 10 days, it's going to be in the shop for at least another 2 weeks for a total of at least 4 weeks. That's at least 28 days in service after only having it for 10 days. Three necessary repairs and some backordered parts. This has to be a pretty rare situation. Just annoying because I can't take my dog for hikes and fun stuff like that which I got the vehicle for and am annoyed and feel like my warranty should at the very least be extended for another month... |

Ask them for an X3 loaner and just lay a big blanket down or something so it doesn't get dog hair on the interior. If they gave you a different model loaner ask them to exchange it.

The loaner car I have is fine, it just doesn't sit well with me to have a car locked up in service for an entire month, let alone after 10 days of purchasing the CPO and it needing three repairs... Last edited by xylodan; 04-26-2021 at 11:13 AM.. |

I think they made that recommendation because you mentioned you can't do the things you would normally do in your car, like take your dog for hikes. If the loaner you have is fine, then why not do those things?

As added bonus they have a new fault code after talking with them today. This one for the sunroof... I know it's just bad luck, but, ouch! Now that's four repairs needed after 11 days of driving! |

feel your pain man.
my first g01 m40 was back at the dealership 9 times in 4 months, the final time was for 8 weeks. they finally replaced the whole car into a 2021.... no less than 300 metres up the road the subwoofers fail. one failed visit to the dealership already and now waiting on parts.... G01 quality is shocking. |

I believe that California has the most generous new vehicle Lemon Laws in the Country.
Do those laws apply to CPO vehicles as well? If so, I would be thinking about another vehicle. I have only had my X3 M40i for eight months and 6,000 miles so far, but it has been flawless to this point. |

It was a leased vehicle...
But yeah, in CA the lemon laws do apply to any car still under the new car warranty and this CPO applies... I think should ditch it as well as the dealership... Each person I talk to has a different story and they promise things in person and then ignore follow up calls on those things which they promised. Really frustrated. |

I had an e30 (1986 3 series) that I put 250k miles on. Amazing car. Then I got an E46 that was s total nightmare. Then I drove Jeep Wranglers which were solid and reliable, but noisy. I decided to get back on the BMW train and it's going quite poorly so far... Trying to decide if I should get a new m40i to replace the CPO or to abandon BMW again. |

My 2nd and current F30 has been in the shop twice (other than maintenance) in the 6 years that I've had it. BMW is hit or miss, and if I were in your shoes I'd be skeptical about being able to still have worry-free life with the car.

The 2018 model year was the first for the G01 X3. It is not unusual for the first year of a major redesign to have problems that may be addressed or alleviated in subsequent years. Some BMW owners prefer to avoid the first year of a major redesign for that reason.
From a November 2019 Consumer Reports article: "These data show the BMW X3's rocky reliability ride after a redesign. The SUV was redesigned in 2011, and it took until the 2016 model to work out the bugs. It was redesigned again for 2018. The X3 suffered from first-year flaws, and that model year continues to have well-below-average reliability. The data show that the automaker was able to quickly address the flaws of the first-year model so that they didn't plague the 2019 X3, which has above-average reliability." The statistical analysis Consumer Reports uses for determining reliability has its limitations. The most recent CR rating for the 2018 X3 has risen to worse than average (2 out of 5) with 2 categories worse than average and 5 average and the other 9 above average or well above average. In comparison, the 2020 X3 is now rated well below average based on only a single category, in-car electronics, that falls below above average. BMW has a recall for some 2019 and 2020 X3s to address a problem with the rear camera, that may partially account for the low reliability rating for in-car electronics. In my opinion, the number of problems the OP has encountered in the 2018 CPO X3 appears well above the norm, even for the first year of a redesign. If it was my vehicle, I would be disappointed more of these problems were not identified and corrected during the CPO process. |
