I think we can all agree that 2sporty lacks some, lets just say 'finesse' in his statements. That said I do wonder a bit about how much switching up the rears to a bigger 'stagger' (255/40 Front 295/35 Rear for instance) affects the handling balance without any additional suspension/alignment changes.

The wheel/tire change was the only change made to the vehicle after pick up. I drove the vehicle with the Coilovers installed at the current ride height for almost 1k miles before the Wheel/Tire change. I drive all my cars hard, so I am well versed in this cars characteristics in both the corners and a straight-line (Not in traffic of course). The current set up has increased both lateral grip, and straight line grip. The ride has improved substantially as well from the stock conti's, due to compound I would suspect. A better rubber compound with an increased contact patch will do that. I would assume braking distances has been shortened as well, although I haven't given that a try. Despite this clowns ridiculous assumption of understeer and this being an AWD vehicle, there is absolutely no understeer. Of course if you take any corner fast enough, one can always induce understeer in any car (Viper, Corvette, 911). I have been on track with my ZO6s and Vipers, and am "Semi" well versed in suspension geometry, alignments, and suspension setups (I have used Moton/Rippie/LG Motorsport/KW Coilovers in the past). This being a STREET VEHICLE, my primary goal with this setup was aesthetics, the increase in grip and ride quality is an extra bonus. For all the members worried about "Understeer" or any adverse handling, it's an absolute non issue. I am very happy from both an aesthetic perspective as well as performance. Obviously that doesn't mean you'll smash into a wall nor does it mean you'll ever notice this on the road. Actually understeering when driving on the road would mean you've pushed the vehicle hard enough to run out of available traction. Which is highly unlikely especially considering you've raised that level higher with the tire changes made. |

My inquiry is of a selfish nature as I am replacing my own tires with a 255/40 F 295/35 R setup due to MPSAS4 availability in 265/40 for me. I assume there will be some additional understeer if pushed but am not familiar enough with the car as of yet to get a feel for how it will affect the balance so was looking for some educated feedback. |

The OEM stagger on the M40i 20s is 245f/275r, right?
Increasing that to a 40mm difference vs a 30mm difference should not result in a night and day change in handling characteristics. Is the M suspension balance really that much different regarding under/oversteer in OEM spec? I would expect not, but I could be wrong. |
