low mileage oil change interval
My car is approaching its second anniversary with 40K kms.
I seem to remember a discussion that BMW will do an oil change annually regardless of mileage. Is this true? Also, is brake fluid flushing covered under the 'free' service?

I only average 7500 miles per year on my 2012 X3. I bring it in on the yearly anniversaries that I purchased it. I guess they call low mileage oil change. I have about 15.3k now and I am due for front brake pads in about 1200 miles.

I am out everyday. Just not driving. I have another auto (2013 MB E350 Cab). The X3 is our daily knock around ( though I don't treat it as such). Actually, my wife now drives it to work daily, 12 miles round trip since last Aug. Before that, for many years she took the bus to work in NYC. I take a bus to work in NYC as well. And the bus stop parking lot is only 2 miles away. That is why i don't put on many miles. For many years we only put minimal mileage during the work week. Most of the miles were weekend driving.

1 year + a day is the rule. I tried to go under mileage two weeks and they actually said its against warranty (but they goodwilled me)
Brake Fluid flush is done at the second year. I can't quite recall if coolant is also part of the list. |

Most of the new engines have lifetime coolant now, so they wont change it.

Called condition based servicing (CBS) Idrive displays how long each component still has left till service is required Brake fluid is every 24 months. So Idrive displays the month and year it needs changing. Coolant is no longer shown as its not changed anymore. Oil varies by date and mileage , so Idrive displays both a mileage to go and date by which the service is required. Mileage depends on driving conditions and fuel quality. The microfilter is also usually listed to be changed at each oil service.

Then it should have been done with the oil change and I don't think it has been. I will check the invoice. That is what I hate not having a printed maintenance
schedule. Do you have something that says that. I agree with you that it should be every year. But obviously BMW doesn't. |

Hey X, if I recall some of the items like wipers are consumables and are excluded from the 'free' maintenance.
I'll save the $100/hr charge and do that stuff myself. Does anyone know how to access the HVAC filter? Is the engine air filter also included in the US 'free' maintenance?

Engine air filter is included in the USA Maintenance package BUT we are now at 42k miles and the dealer still won't change the air filter and won't give me a god idea as to when it needs to be changed.
With that being said, I changed our out on my own dime around 35k miles. It was really dirty but I have seen worse. |
