I guess this is sort of a race to see who finishes last -- the very last 2022 to roll off the assembly line. LOL.
the wait has been a beating so far so why not take the crown as being the last one

When are they going to start building if the production date is for 7/25? They build cars on weekends?

Likely today or tomorrow. I've seen it taking roughly a day or two for completion. Maybe others can chime in here with their experiences.

Probably others have better info on this timing because they've experienced it. But some notes that I think are worth considering:
  • Production Date should be the date it finishes production.
  • It looks like it takes between two and three calendar days to move all the way through to QA check.
  • Status updates can lag the actuals. Something may have already occurred to your vehicle and it takes a couple of days for the system to catch-up. Also, BMW's MyGarage and Tracking have been atypically unavailable the last three days.
  • Because mine was changed from 20 July to 23 July, a Saturday, I think they are working overtime on weekends.
  • Watching several of us have this rescheduled and all piling-up, my guess is they are working overtime.
  • While I don't have automotive factory experience, I do have assembly-line experience in other industries that have switch-overs, and so I suspect that they are trying desperately to finalize all Model Year 2022's this week and next. That's because they need to retool the line somewhat for MY2023's. That may only take a day or two to accomplish, but it does put a stop in the flow.
  • If everything is a finely-oiled process (parts all arrive in the queue), then we should be fine. It's not their first rodeo.

Just for clarity, the production date is the date your car should technically be complete But otherwise good info presented here.

Mine did also get moved up 3days as well. Should have been done by 7/22. Probably will get delayed past 7/25 at this point

Awesome arrows lol! Production date means that assembly should be complete. So based on your rainbow it should at minimum complete the final assembly. From that date it's typically ready for transport.

FastSleeper was spot-on.

It basically finished production on Saturday the 23rd, went through to "Quality Check" and sat there in that status all day Sunday and somewhere into around 4:30 am CT Monday morning. Then burst through to "Awaiting Carrier Assignment" at 7:30 am CT three hours later. Which confirms that the on-line status tracker has some lag, because they didn't do all those steps between that time. More likely, Sunday those steps happened and the status tracker was updated.

Anyhow, more rainbow arrows and status indicators + days-of-week to hopefully assist anyone else in the future with expectations.

Full front PPF appointment set for Monday 01 August -- hope that timing works out!

I've done the factory tour several times. They now have a separate body shop and paint booth. I believe they batch the bodies and especially the paint booth to reduce color changes. Then the bodies are pulled in production/assembly order and sent to the X3/X4 assembly area. From that point on, EVERYTHING is in "Just in time" assembly order. From seats to interior trim to wheels, to everything specific to your car. There is a device to electronically check/confirm the parts as well. Once the doors are on and the chassis is married to the body, and the car lowered and off the line, they put the Roundels on and drive it to a test both. After a 2 minute spin up on rollers, they either drive it to a plant exit for shipping, to QC for a random spot check, or to a correction area if something is amiss. Some (if not all) also go to a quick inside test track for more run-in before loaded for shipment. If I recall, body to paint, to cure time is about a day, and assembly is probably just a few hours (2 minutes x how many stations). QC time is random (minutes to hours I guess), or worst case, set aside for missing-bad parts replacement). But they HATE that, or any stoppage to the line. I think across all 3 lines, they're up to 1400 per day!

PS: I guess your dates are when the updates occur, not the actual real-time events.

If ever in the Greenville/Spartanburg area, I highly recommend booking a factory tour.

EDIT: In 2013 they made videos of your specific car's production. Here was my 2013 X3 in Vermilion Red. X3 Production

Yes, I think you are correct about the updates/actuals.

Agree -- love the Spartanburg plant. It's a great tour! Though, I'll have to give the slight edge to the Munich location's "vertical" factory configuration. It's amazing seeing entire car bodies going up 50 feet while having parts assembled.

Original production date of 7/25 has been pushed back to 7/30. Seems like they are behind.
