I don't think that was a harsh statement. The poster isn't wrong about the risks and unlike many of the things that could kill me or anyone else, smoking is an avoidable cause of death.

As I said above, I'm well aware of the realities involved, but I'm also well aware that my issue is an addiction at this point in the game.

I certainly didn't take it as you being one. You'll have to try harder than saying something that is both right for my own good in order for me to think you are being a dick.

I keep trying them on and off - I find, personally, that it makes quitting a little harder, as it's a constant reminder of what I'm missing (kind of like M-DCT)...

I've never really quit, just longer and longer breaks (years), and less and less substitutes...

I know how that goes. My computer too has good spelling days and bad ones. For all the advances in computing power and software capabilities that have occurred in the past score of years, one'd think they could make one that would consistently spell correctly. LOL

As a former heavy smoker (pack a day) and current light smoker (pack a week), the only advice I can give about the situation is from my own experience. The easiest part to cut back on was the act of physically going to the store and buying the pack. It sounds trivial, but it's a lot easier to stop yourself from walking in to the store and paying for another pack than to stop yourself from lighting one up if you have a pack on you. Make sense?

Next time you have the urge to smoke and you're out, try not to buy more.

Yes i have tried them,I must say that is a fine way to get rid of things like smoking,Basically when it comes to smoking people usually do not have much to say they usually go for lame stuff that actually doesn't make sense,But the thing is E cigarette because of my personal experience i am saying it works.

Tried a Blu today. Like the flavor better, but effect doesn't feel the same, yet I only wanted a couple puffs at a time. Maybe it'll work to help me quit. Of course deciding to quit would help more.

I usually just enjoy a poof when I'm completely hammered. Really kicks your drunk up. Have never itched for a cigarette before. I don't really have that type of addictive personality towards myself, when I know something begins to grab hold of my life I let it go before it gets further into my life.

My friend was a smoker for a while because his mom is a smoker. He recently began letting off and gave the e-cigs a try. Yea, they're not like the real inhaling feeling you get from a cig. I don't know where he stands now (if he still buys packs or not) but he was quitting because he was trying to join the Navy soon, and I guess for personal gain. When I have seen him recently though he hasn't had a pack on him for the last month I've seen him (maybe three times out of the month I've seen him).

Other advice would be, which isn't great advice, is to cancel out the cigarette addictions with one less health related addiction. Try watching a lot of porn or something, at least you'll get an arm workout

I'll share what my observation has been: Nobody starts out smoking a pack a day. Everybody who is a smoker started with one here and there for whatever reason(s).

Nicotine is mentally addictive to be sure. But it's also very physically addictive. With enough exposure to it, it'll do exactly what the tobacco companies want it to do. I can assure you that, horrified as I am to actually write this, if you want to "kick up your drunk," another cocktail is, in the long run, a better approach.

All the best.

Have you always hated the after smell on your fingers and the taste in your mouth after smoking a cigarette? I'm a germaphobe.

Yes, though I mitigate my abhorrence these days by just not putting my hands near my nose immediately after smoking. I'm not keen on the smell being in my clothing either, so I only smoke in well ventilated spaces.
  • At home in certain rooms with a fan blowing and window open to create negative pressure in the room, though it also helps that my home's ventilation system lets me "cherry pick" how the air flows.
  • In the car with the driver's side window down a bit to create negative pressure in the car.
  • Hotel suites and corporate apartments - only if there's a patio or balcony.

BTW, I only have one ashtray in the house. It travels with me to the office, porch, pool, patio or garage, but never to the bedrooms or other parts of the house.

Can't do it lol. Bugs the hell out of me and I always have an issue with cleanliness for my hands, even when they are the dirtiest part of your body. Unless you have some sort of issue in your crotch area, that would probably be the dirtiest but. Yea I dunno...I had/have (slightly still) severe asthma in my younger days, and don't really like the tight chest feeling so there's a lot to keep me away from making it more of a routine

Funny you should say that. I still remember a weed and alcohol induced discussion I had with my collegiate friend, Mike, on that matter. I don't remember how the conversation began, but at some point, he mentioned that it's wierd that we wash our hands after taking a piss, but not before. His reasoning was that after one showers in the morning, one's whole body is clean. Then, as one goes about one's day, one's hands encounter all manners of germs and grime. Then one goes to the loo to pee and grabs one heretofore clean willy with one's well traveled, hands, thereby transferring some share of the filth to what was a clean c*ck.

He further reasoned that his point was even more valid in warmer months when, as college kids, we wore pretty loose fitting garments, and not many of them -- boxers, pants, a shirt and shoes. Accordingly, in his mind, there was enough air flow to inhibit the growth of bacteria and whatnot. He concluded therefore, that at least in the summer, one should wash before peeing and wash after if one splashed.

For my part, I don't recall having any rebuttal. At that point in my life, and especially when I was stoned out of my mind, I was more the type, when I heard silly sh*t, to just say, "okay," and let the topic die. I also don't know what we discussed or did next. Most likely thing, given the weed, is (1) we went looking for food, or (2) we came up with some "brilliant" idea that would be the best thing since sliced bread, or (3) came up with a great solution to a problem our physics professor had posed.

Now I'm wondering, some 20+ years later, what Mike's thoughts are on the same matter. And, no I'm not right now smoking anything other than my e-cigarette.
