Thats what I average in a FBO N55, crazy how similar the engines are in MPG with different power and displacement

Not that the 4 cyl isn't capable, it's just a lot to ask a little 2L engine to haul around an AWD 4200 lb vehicle where the 3L does it much more effortlessly, therefore the similar MPG.

BMW should have kept their non-turbo 3L for the base model in their heavier vehicles, but everyone is doing the 4 cyl turbo at the expense of higher maintenance costs of a turbo motor.

well, BMW lists the X3 35i as 19 city/ 26 highway and the 28i as 19 city/25 highway. So the only advantage to getting the 28i was the price is lower than the 35i...

Not sure what you are comparing here, I have a 2013 and the EPA ratings for the two engines that year where 2.0L 4cyl 21/28/24 (city, highway, combined) vs. 3.0L 6cyl 19/26/21.

Agreed, even the 28i with a 4cyl, the difference in mpg vs the 35i is relatively small.

I took a look and for 2011, the xDrive28i was 6-Cyl, 3.0 Liter @ 240HP while the xDrive35i was 6-Cyl, Twin Turbo, 3.0 Liter @ 300HP

When I said the 2011 did not have a 4cyl, I assumed people would know it was only offered with a 6cyl, but thanks for taking the time to look it up and post your findings.
