What's your mpg
new owner to an 2016 X3 35i 90% freeway and my on broad computer indicates I'm averaging 21.5 mpg. I was expecting higher considering I'm doing mostly hwy...these are rated at 27mpg HWY.

2012 model year car with I-6 motor, no turbo…..best I can get on extended completely open road driving is 27MPG.
My thought is you should do bit better than you're seeing, but if you have heavy foot passing other cars, etc. with that turbo that will drop the MPG. |

I do my best to go with the flow, but there are times the power of the x3 encourages me to overtake slower cars

2011 X3 35i with 144k miles and get ~22mpg in mixed driving. If just highway I have got 26-27 mpg, if keeping it at the speed limit. The on board computer becomes less accurate as the various parts get older. Run some good fuel injector cleaner through a tank of gas and then manually calculate the mpg on the next tank.

I get 21 combined. 18ish city. Compared to the F30 N20 we have, it boosts a lot more and a lot more frequently. It's heavy and pushes a lot of air for such a tiny engine. The NA 3l and turbo 3l get to work a lot less even if they're bigger engines.
It's annoying the MPG ratings are so much higher than reality. |

Think about it, a little 2.0 ltr engine hauling around a 2+ ton AWD vehicle, it has to work its ass off doing it, especially in hilly terrain. It's not that it can't push the heavy vehicle around, it's that it has to work extra hard doing it, therefore reducing MPG. For that reason, I never even considered a 2.0 when I was looking.

I have a ‘11 28i I6 not the 35i turbo,,,,and i can drive around town at a constant 24.5 mpg. Drives to and from work yield 27ish at 60 mph and if I’m on a trip on the interstate, a constant 65-70 mph yields 29-31.2 mpg

29-31 on Highway is really good. Same normally aspirated motor in my 2012 X3, best I can do on open road is 27-28.

Stoy, also consider that suburban interstate is not HWY as rated by the EPA. That is fully open, can set your cruise type of highway.
For my open highway I get about 26-27 in an N20; raw city I get about 19 but I drive agressively. For mixed, which is suburban interstate and city streets I average about 22. |

I get around 15MPG on my 2014 35i. I do have ASS turned off, most of my driving is stop and go and I admittedly have a heavy right foot.

How so?
Current prices where I live: D2 - $3.28/gal Premium - $3.70/gal Even if I were to compare to regular unleaded -- which I'd never use in a BMW -- currently $2.99/gal, D2 is only 9% more.

Mixed driving:
2016 x3 diesel gets me 33mpg. 2015 x5 35i gets me 19mpg I think alot of the fuel efficiency will be determined by your right foot and what tires/tire sizes you are running and where you are driving. With the 35i I have found that moderate acceleration brings the best fuel efficiency. Smashing it to 7k rpm obviously sucks back fuel but so does being very light footed. The fuel quality matters significantly. I use only Shell ethanol free and gained 2mpg. I also run redline through it every 4 or 5 tanks. If your intake is clogged with carbon it will reduce efficiency as well. |
