audible locking 'chirp"
Is a bothersome whistle type chirp the only choice for audible notification when locking the x3m40i?? Its kind of annoying and would prefer a horn beep like Ive had in previous vehicles. Is this possible?

I think the chirp comes from the Alarm. So two factors matters here.
1. If you have Alarm or not 2. Where you live The sound can be coded on or off using Bimmercode. Some changes to how it sounds can also be made.

The chirp has been the same in all BMWs equipped with a factory alarm since at least the late 90s. I can't imagine why anyone would believe the horn sounds more premium.

Not sure why a horn sound over chirp is better or more "sophisticated" sounding. Sound lasts what, a nano-second?

I have yet to use my horn, but how is this a bad thing? My last car was a 2014 Honda Accord, and its horn was a pitiful, high-pitched meep. At the time, I wished it came with a loud, deeper, more classic sounding horn. If the BMW horn is loud... isn't that better?

Chirp on X3's in Europe ?
HI everyone,
I'm based in Belgium and my neighbor's X5 does the same thing. When I asked the garage to active this, I got the answer that this open/close chirp is not available on the X3. Don't believe this as I see that there are several people here are confirming. but it look like all of you are from North America. Therefore, are there any Euro spec X3's here that have it working ? If yes, I have something to go back with and make them find out instead of sending me back with a cheap excuse. Thanks ! |

In the UK the acoustical alert is not enabled by default.
I enabled the feature using bimmercode, it also give you the option to add in a check box on in iDrive menu to turn acoustical confirmation on and off. You can change 3 characteristics of the chirp. Chirp Duration, frequency/tone and volume. The normal(default) duration and frequency chirp sounds cheap/dated in my opinion which is probably what others hear in region enabled areas. The high frequency tone in combination with short chirp sounds a lot more modern Mine is currently set to short chirp, High frequency and normal volume. Anyone interested in a sound clip? |
