A DBX is a 5,200 lb sports SUV. It's an X5M competitor.

100% agree w/ this - I'd say if there is any downside to vehicles w/ the S58 is that you gotta make sure the prior owner didn't beat the shit out of it. These cars are magnets for performance upgrades and racing/abuse.

If OP has a chance to vet the prior owner it might be beneficial. Personally - I'd be terrified buying a used S58 M3/4.

That’s awesome mate - it’s getting me excited for this vehicle! I hope to own one very very soon!

Any high performance car or SUV is going to be a potential magnet for people who like to modify cars. The S58 is no different there. Thankfully it's a strong powertrain bolted to an equally strong drivetrain & can take a fair amount of abuse. I fully agree that buying any used car makes me a touch nervous. NO matter how well it appears to be taken care of. Always good to be safe rather than sorry. As the saying goes.

Over the last 15 years or so I've changed from muscle Mustangs/Corvettes and various Chevy's to turbo cars. the turbo cars ranged from WRX to STI to BMW's. The Subie's i've owned (3) were all bought new, the Bimmers were all off lease. Your point is spot on, it's a risk. I wonder though in this respect if you were lucky enough to find my vehicle for sale you'd be getting a gem and that probably goes for a good amount of people on this forum, we're taking care of our vehicles and driving them hard but not abusively, there's a difference. Case in point, someone just got my retired M240xi with upgraded Turbo/a lot of bolt ons and all maintenance done including injectors/hoses/belts/tensioners, car was mint BUT i found this X3M and that was it for me. Whoever got that car (i traded it and regret doing so, i couldn't justify two mosters) got a gem. Used equals a gamble but sometimes you win gambling! PSA, sometimes you loose gambling also... lol

Same boat here - went from 60's/70's muscle cars to these cars. Slowly selling some of those off.

Agree 100% w/ your post. Even looking at diff between M3/4 owners posters on this site and X3M owners/posters - there's a decent difference. There seems to be a newly wrecked M3/4 daily or weekly over there. Seems to be a higher percentage of knucklehead/cannibals over there.

I guess my point is that if OP can find a prior like you/me - it might be worth it.

Service history could sometimes given you an indication of the ownership and usage as well. I typically look at whether services were documented and done in a timely manner at the dealership.
Folks that are modifying these cars or abusing them are more susceptible to possibly skipping maintenance or having an independent. The dealer will also make notes on issues that happened with the car.

I purchased my car based on the consistency of the service history at that particular dealer and the fact that I would take an extended warranty for a little longer.

Down the line, I plan to do power mods anyway and will deal with what comes with that.

I purchased my 2020 from a dealer (Dreyer & Reinbold) that has a race team in the Indy 500 each year.
Their driver for the 2 year period (2020-2021) had my X4MC as his team car, to drive around town and back/forth to PA from Indy.

While it's kinda cool to know it was driven by an Indy 500 driver (Sage Karam, still had his phone and setup info in the car when I bought it) I always wonder how he drove it... ??
It was CPO'd by the dealer and I've had 0 issues to date (knock wood), but it's always in the back of my mind...

I think we're all on the same page, there's a way to drive hard and then there's beating on it. Couple this with "how was it maintained" and you have the formula. These vehicles seem to hold up to even abuse so if there driven hard nicely for lack of a better way of stating it IMO they'll hold up.

Reliability wise they do seem very good - even if tuning it as long as it’s a good tune and also been maintaining it then it should stay solid!

The age of the previous owner may also matter.. how many owners and when the car was built Monday or Friday. I always hoped that mine was built on Tuesday 😊

It’s really about which design and tech you like best…
I liked the very first design best, so went with a 2020 MY.

You were complaining about plugs & oil change which aren't that bad. Enjoy

That’s very true - I like the look of the pre lci and the tech is pretty much the same as the lci

Still looking but not too much luck - if I get a 2020/21 I’d love to do rear break light swap to the LCI and keep the front as is (there’s no LCI swap for the front)

Hoping to still be able to get one, they seem like lots of fun and reliable

Was crossshopping with an a45 amg 2023 but hard to compare really

I love AMG's (see me sig below) and have owned several, however I wouldn't touch a late model AMG or any M-B in general especially a used one as their reliability has gone to shiite according to owners I know and reviews as well.
Damn shame

Damn, that is a shame! I have a GLA 45am 2017 currently and it’s still holding up after nearly 80000kms

You think still stick with a 20/21 X3/4M?

Yes,I do. But I'm 100% biased towards the X3MC;I had a huge grin on my face every time I fired it up and it never disappointed. Was even more entertaining when I added a basic piggyback to it. Mind you,I only had 22k miles on it when I moved on to the X5 but they were totally trouble free.

On the flip side,I know first hand how much it can cost to maintain/fix a late model BMW out of warranty if it shits the bed(daughters 330i xdrive)

Highly recommend X3M/4M

Found a really interesting one:
https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...SE-AD-14875036

It’s got 44,000 but it’s a beautiful red and seems to have the 2021 features without the price of a 2021

Any thoughts on this and it’s unique spec?
