Just means you have quite the hunt on your hands to locate a suitable 2018 on a lot somewhere that happens to have ZDB. Otherwise, you just have to order a 2019 /or/ wait for 2019s to start flooding dealer lots and make a choice.

At that time dealers were of no help with 2019 ordering but things may have changed as the 2018MY wraps up. Unknown discounts and incentives on a 2019 helped make my choice for me. Did I need a new car (whether 2018 or 2019)? Absolutely not, but I love my M40i. |

I scored exactly what I wanted package wise and exterior color wise (m sport trim, DA and DA+, White) The only thing is I had to take upgraded mocha vernasca with cove wood trim interior, vs the basic black leatherette with chrome trim I had wanted. But they ate the additional cost of that upgrade. So I guess I got SUPER lucky. But it's definitely worth a shot. |

I spoke with my dealership (Baron BMW) today, they said that as far as they know all the preexisting orders for 2018 X3 m40i (even with ZDA/ZDB) should still be in effect and were not able to find anything out about a conference call regarding order cancellations or being bumped to 2019. Maybe OP’s experience was an isolated event?

Scheduled But Not Anymore
After reading this thread over the weekend, I visited my dealer to check on the status of my order, placed 30 MAY and submitted to BMW 1 JUN: X3 30i M Sport w/ ZDA & ZDB plus more. It had been coded 112 -- Order Scheduled for Production, but is now listed 105 -- Order Out of Production Period. The ZDA/B is the cause of the change. Sssooo, he is waiting for updated information from BMW and guidance from his management on how to handle my order, as well as another from early MAY. Hope they honor the agreed upon price which included incentives, cash, financing, etc, as others here have been able to get that commitment.

Guys, it’s hard to know which dealers are truly transparent, but I feel confident in mine that everything will work out for the best. I’m not a fan of waiting until the end of August/beginning of September.... butttt, at least I get a brand new 2019 with the proper steering wheel with the M differential and all at the 2018 price point (same incentives, money factor, discount, etc). Whether or not I have to make another payment on my current lease or not, I would have been making a payment anyhow (new car or old), so that doesn’t mean much to me. Bring on the hot tub time machine and let’s get into September already!

But I have noticed more dealers have M40 in stock here with ZDB, tho, with the MSRP price being what it makes it already a stretch for me. If I could find an M40 for around $600 a month lease I would pull the trigger in a heartbeat. I might just extend the lease on my current 3 series. The dealership I got the car from was trying to push me that route, his argument was that for one thing the lease I have on the 3 series is way too good and lets me order or get 2019 once they hit the lot. But cant tell if he really just wants me to order a 2019 from him in July or is being helpful.. |

For what it’s worth I heard back again from my dealer which confirms that they just heard from BMW about the shortage that they will be cancelling my 2018 order and bumping it to the 2019 model year for August production just like OP’s experience. All final pricing and trade in value for my current car will be honored. Has it been confirmed that the 2019 model year will for sure include the m-sport steering wheel?

I got $5k off sticker, which brings it to about $1k under invoice, and I also got a $2k manufacturer rebate, $1k conquest, and 0.9% for 60 months. The car the dealer found for us also didn't have CarPlay, but they offered to unlock it for us, saving another $300. In the end, I probably paid only a few thousand dollars more compared to a loaded 2019 xDrive30i, which wouldn't have qualified for such massive discounts. |

Yup, that’s literally the biggest change for 2019 MY, with the addition of some of ZDA being included in the base price of the car as well. Another big bonus is you can order the M differential.

You can extend your lease up to six months if you’re ordering another car.

You guys with dealers that are honoring your 2018 deal on a 2019 are fortunate.
My dealer was in denial for a couple weeks. I kept following up with him and telling him that I knew the parts shortage was impacting my build. They finally admitted a problem and said basically "Too bad, it's BMW and out of our control. The deal is off." This was Knauz BMW of Lake Bluff, IL. |

Interesting. My NJ dealer seems adamant they can still get a 2018 M40i custom order with ZDA/B thru despite me mentioning the part shortage. Order not even submitted yet, going in later today.

Likewise here.... Just checked with my dealer (in Toronto) what the status of our custom ordered x30i with ZDA/B (as part of Ultimate Package) is, and he said it went from status 112 (scheduled for production) last week, to status 150 (production started) this week and a VIN has been assigned - so it looks like it will be delivered in July as planned.

Good luck dakotadog70. Hope your build goes through. Maybe have the ‘what if’ discussion with them to see if they will stand behind the order...and get it in writing. What was the date of your order Amsterdave? My order was attempted June 4th and I think anything ordered the week before was able to be overridden. |

What exactly is the M differential and how does it compare to the 'adaptive M suspension'?

Just talked with my dealer. My order from 30 MAY (submitted to BMW on 2 JUN) was:
x3 30i, M Sport (delete Moonroof), Phytonic Blue, Black Leather w/ Blue Stitching, Rhombicle Aluminum, ZDA/B, Parking Assist/Plus, Premium, 19" Run Flats, Rear Manual Side Shades, HK, & Wireless Charging He informed me that BMW can build a 2018 w/ ZDA/B, but the Leather w/ Blue Stitching and Rhombicle Aluminum are NOT available. Go figure??? If I do a 2018, all the incentives, credits, financing will remain in effect. If I go with a 2019, only the $500 over Invoice and incentives in effect at time of order will be applied. If he can find a similar at another dealer, then there's the price negotiation and shipping (if out of the NW area)... The interior is as important as the exterior, as well as safety features, so not likely to go for a 2018 build. Any thoughts as to the timing of BMW incentives--historically. I'm not in a hurry, except that I've been excited to upgrade my current 2012 X3 28i. |
