Bumping an older thread. Seems like consensus so far on the forums is 20% on the front windows will match the factory tint in the rear ... however I want to go darker in the rear. Any idea how 50% aftermarket tint would impact factory tint? Assuming there is somewhat of a linear relationship ... any idea of what that might be (ie factory 20 + 70 aftermarket = 10%)?

I don't think that would be a problem, upon inspecting my windshield the sensor for the day/night is on the headpart and not on the dashboard. I had a 2016hyundai veloster and the sensor for auto day/night was on the dashboard and mess up the system especially on gloomy days that it switch on my light since the sensor was on the dashboard but for my x3 I checked it was on the over head.

I did Llumar Formula One Stratos 30% up front and 65% on the rear and sunroof. I think it looks great and the minimal heat coming in is significant.

Sexy! I have an Alpine white and would do that as well. I plan to do 3M crystalline since they quoted me cheaper than the Llumar Stratos. My 2 other cars and my wife's Honda had Llumar pinnacle since 2013 and it stayed pretty good. What do you think try 3m or Llumar. I guess the 3M has a better heat rejection, I'm from Fl. so heat and sun is always an issue. I don't have a garage for my car and it is pretty much baked under the sun for most time.

Hey. Im planning to move to SF california next year. Can I still tint my 2 front windows? I'm from Florida so tint is legal for 2 front doors. I wonder if I don't have to remove my tint before moving.

Would it be possible if you can share a picture of how 35% would look like?

I did 20 on the front 60 on the rear...turned out pretty good. Used Solar Gard ceramic tint. My preference was Llumar Stratos, but the shop wanted about $650 to do the X3. So I went to another shop, compared the tints, looked very similar in performance, and got Solar Gard for $400.
Now, just saw the post on tint laws in California. Got me wondering what they are in other states...wow. 70% on fronts in Cali and some states like NJ, PA, and a few other don’t even allow any tint. I’ve tinted every car I’ve ever owned with 20-30% tint on the front. As a matter of fact when we see a car with no tint we sometimes wonder what’s wrong with those people. The heat rejection alone is worth it plus the privacy aspect and security since people passing by can’t see easily what’s in your car. |

I ended up doing 15% on the front and 30% on the back. Very happy with the balance between front and back. Not too dark at night either.

Finally tinted my car. Stratos 30 front and stratos 15 back, windshield Air80. I love it, it helps with all the heat this summer!
