wind noise in M40i
Although I have an M40i, I'm guessing that it may exist as well in a 30i.
The car is very quiet, but there is still some wind noise that comes through the front drivers side window. There's no whistling or howling, but more of general wind buffeting and whooshing sounds. Again, this car is quieter than the 2013 X5 that I just traded in, so it's not like it's crazy loud or anything. I'm just curious if others have experienced this. I would love to beef up the weather stripping to get it to a Mercedes S class level |

I'm getting the same from my driver's side window. Nothing terrible, but it's slightly more noise than I anticipated (only at hwy speed). Still much quieter than the Mercedes SUV I just traded in for the M40i. Seems like they could probably improve it a bit.

My 30i with M-Sport Pkg is EERILY quiet. Haven't noticed the specific wind noise sound you describe but will keep my EARS PEELED for it...

Thank you for this thread.
I too hear lots of wind noise, mainly front driver at say low km/hr, in particular at 100 km/hr on a non windy day. Definitely noticeable, I booked Wed f/up. They will likely say its normal. |

Maybe I'll stuff some kleenex up in the window groove. Roll down the window, jam a thin layer of kleenex, and roll it up again to create a tighter seal.
I've seen some videos online about how to make the door seal tighter. One used a small-diameter rubber tube and packed it behind the door seal to create a tighter door/body seal. Another YouTube video showed that some howling/whistling noise was coming from a mirror. They used painter's tape to mask the joint between the mirror cap and the mirror body on the leading edge of the mirror assembly. I'm not sure that this would work for me as it doesn't seem to be a whistling sound. Another YouTube video showed how the front window seal may be loose or not installed correctly near the top corners on the windscreen. This was for a different model, I think it was a Subaru, but it goes to show you that there are a lot of things that could cause wind noises. |

Mother Nature and trailer truck wind buffeting the M40i moved around with the wind more than the 228i coupe but less than my 2015 MB 350 ML 4matic. Nothing bad. I find the M40i very quiet. The mild driver's side wind noise I think is the big ass mirror. |

Why not retrofit the acoustic glazing option (3KA) we get here in Europe? Looks like a straight swap.

Thanks for the info strike4A. I'll have to figure out if it's noise that's just being heard though the window, in which case the dual-pane glass would help, or if it's a weak door or window seal that's leaking and causing the noise.
I bought some 3M door seal product to add to the manufacturer's seal. I'll see if that helps and report back. |

On thing that I noticed this morning is that the door trim doesn't exactly line up from the front door to the rear passenger door. It seems that the door itself (door frame and lower door panel) do line up with the contours of the rear door. (See picture. Black trim right in RED CIRCLE is a bit bulged out from the black trim on the rear door).
So, because of that, I don't think that it's a door striker or door latch problem (where the door isn't been latched fully closed). I had thought about shifting the striker back (see picture) so that the door would close tighter. I bought 3 types of weather stripping, so this weekend I'll try them out and see if it helps. The stripping is cheap ($8-15 USD), so it's a cheap fix if it works. |

Have the exact same thing. The area below the window on the drivers door bows out but the molding at the bottom is flush. Was hoping just striker but you are probably right that it won't help.

Here's a pic of the front door sill on my M40i.
I recall on a 228i forum that the was an OEM rubber piece that attached to the body that the door onto. I was going to order a pr. for the 2016 228i I traded for the M40i. Anyone savvy enough to lookup if an OEM strip is available for the body ? Would cut down on road/tire noise. |

You'll have to post pics. I don't see any seal issues on mine, in fact it seems the door has a double seal, one on the inside of the latch along the frame and one along the outside on the door. Both seem to contour to where they meet the body/door and I've got no noise.
