I'll be honest. It kind of annoys the hell out of me that the X3 M40i didn't release with the B58 at 380HP like the upcoming M340i. What is BMW afraid of? Its not like the X3 M40i would be faster than the M340i. Why just jump out in front when you could rocket forward?

I think the m40i is actually a perfectly tuned sav. I don't want more power in this, it has great mileage, it's comfortable, it's not loud, it sounds wonderful, and it's the perfect height and width. I can't use all 355hp often enough to justify even more than that...I wouldn't reject more power if it fell into my lap, but I don't feel like I'm lacking the extra 25+ lol... |

So what if it's an SAV? The incoming X5M will be getting 600+HP. The X3M will be 100X better than the M40i and it won't be just about "more power". There are too many differences to list as to why the X3M will be better. Adding 25 hp to the M40i won't hurt the X3M lol. It's going to be a big difference...regardless. I don't care about mileage. I want more power and sound. Maybe the 30i would have suited you better. The SAV cargo/performance/hp wars has a lot to do with the competition. I dislike how BMW squeaks forward versus the competition only to get passed. That 25HP you can't use or feel would make the M40i the clear segment leader and I think BMW could move forward without constantly handicapping themselves. IMO, it is silly how BMW plays games with performance figures in every segment. Let's not hurt the outgoing X5 50i's feelings and keep it at 355HP lol. There were people who swore the M40i would never get more than 330HP. Remember those threads/posts? You may not want more power but I bet you are in the minority in this thread. A 380HP X3 M40i or a 480HP X3M is not for you and that's OK.

I just want to say that who cares what strategy they take? add a 500$ chip and get 60 to 80 more hp.... unless I line up next to a glc63 amg , trackhawk or quadrafuligligligo I'll be coming out on top and at 30k$ less

I just finished installing my JB4 and it is incredible. This is my third BMW that I've had a JB4 on, and it never ceases to amaze me.
One thing I wanted to note is that the B58 JB4 is incredibly easy to install. Especially compared to the N54 or S55. The TMAP and MAP sensors are incredibly easy to access, the cowling and engine cover pop on/off without any tools, and access through the firewall to the OBDII port is only covered with a sticker and not a thick rubber grommet any more. Literally the ONLY tool you need to use is a 10mm wrench to disconnect connector from the negative terminal on the battery. Overall the entire process took less than 1 hr and my guess is that next time I could complete it in 15-20 minutes. I used to fight with M4 for hours trying to get my hands at some of the connectors. This car was quick before, now its a MONSTER If anyone is in Southern CA and either wants to see what the car feels like, or needs help with an install I am happy to help. Just shoot me a PM

go get the x5m or wait for the x3m then or go sell your m40i and get a jeep srt8 if all you're after is power and sound. bmw has a lot more to offer than power and sound. you went with wrong vehicle so maybe that's why you're feeling the way you are... and no, the 30i wouldn't have suited me better, I got what I did because the 30i wasn't enough power for me, but the m40i is PLENTY. it's a great balanced vehicle. sorry I'm not sorry you're feeling buyers remorse...it is an unsettling feeling. to each his own... The Macan GTS and GLC AMG43 may beat us off the line. The extra 25HP would have ensured that they couldn't....stock with no tune. I am referring to SAVs in this class and approximate price bracket only. The other vehicles you mentioned are in X3M or X5M territory. For once I'd like to see BMW not hold back and bring it. They did a great job with the M5 vs the E63. That strategy should work across the line.

You're right. X3M CP is for me
You can ride around in your M40i in Eco-Pro mode. It's nice and quiet and gets incredible gas mileage. After all...it's just an SAV. Quote:

My initial post had nothing to do with whether or not it has plenty of power for you. It wasn't a stab at the M40i but at BMW for holding back...which IMO, they did. Enjoy your M40i...I will.

but I can guarantee you no GLC43 or Macan gts will beat me if they are stock I'm pretty sure I'm putting down 420hp and 460 torque with a 0-60 probably around 4.2 secs Unfortunately, with my small winter wheels, my tires are smoking all the way to 30-40km/h on dry pavement (launch control is a hell of a thing)

and again, that is your opinion that the competition is "always" better...a macan GTS rolling in at 19K (what another forum member stated he paid for it above his m40i) is NOT ALWAYS BETTER at a staggering $20,000 price tag increase...lol. it's not. it's about perception of what you're getting and what you want in a vehicle. your perception of what you were getting into versus what it actually is was so different it made you regret SOME (maybe not all) parts of the purchase otherwise you wouldn't be so pissed at bmw for whatever you think they didn't include in this perfect sav... anyway... we'll be anxious to see you x3m when it comes out! |

Comparing the size of the X5 vs the X3 and saying "hardly a size competition between the two" is laughable. I am not going down that road with you lol. I disagree. The current GTS is a better overall performance SAV despite the price difference which could vary from $75K to $100K+. Again, the M40i should have had more power from the factory and is far from perfect. You are entitled to your opinion and I mine. I will be getting into a X3M/CP in 2021. Or maybe a FPace SVR. I will see when the time comes. Maybe you will be around. Maybe you wont. Maybe I won't. Regardless, I won't be looking for you lol.
