UK factory order delivery times
Hi,
Just wondering what any recent UK factory orders (assuming new orders not existing order/allocation amendments) people have been quoted/delivered. I was quoted 8-10 weeks before I ordered. (I was advised that until the order was placed an accurate delivery couldn’t be advised). Once the order was placed a VIN number would be assigned sharpish. When I ordered the car (first BMW) the order confirmation had 13 weeks and when queried I was advised it’s 12-16 weeks (new info to me) and they were built in the US (new info to me). Chassis/VIN was advised 10 weeks after order with no update on delivery available. Details and updates from the dealer were poor so I turned to genius. Car was built more than 2 weeks ago and is still status code 9000 so at least 6 weeks away. Currently looking at 19 weeks + for delivery. Am I right in thinking this is quite a while? What are other UK buyers being quoted/how long did it take? Thanks in advance Dave |

Quoted 10-12weeks. Order placed mid-April, with expected delivery at end of June / first week of July. Car built first week of May and in the UK first week of June. Collected mid-June. Guess it depends on how the car once out of the factory connects with the shipping schedules.

Lead time will depend on two things:
1. How many weeks away your build slot is after placing an order. It could be 1-4 weeks depending on dealer allocation. 2. As @SSDMW14 wrote, logistical schedules makes a difference too. If you are unlucky your car can even be stuck waiting at the port of Southampton for 3-4 week. 19 weeks is towards the extreme end. 10-15 weeks is more towards my expectations. However delays can happen.

I think they just quote the absolute worst case scenario, rather than promising a nearer date and then letting you down. I was told 3 to 4 months and it was in the dealers ready to collect in little over 2 months.

Cars from the US stay at 9000 until they hit Bremerhaven in Germany. More than likely your car is well on it's way to UK. I would say another week before you hit 9610 port of exit at Bremerhaven. 9620 At Sea is when it's heading from Bremerhaven to Southampton.
BMW Genius don't know anything, I've been told many times that at 9000 I'm at least 6 weeks away, then suddenly it would be 9610, 9620 then in the UK in the space of 3 days. BMW system lags behind as when it comes to tracking the the car whilst on the ship/ports. From what I learnt, BMW system estimate delivery date based on 9000. It seems the system thinks it's at least 6 weeks away from delivery when at 9000, so it just keeps slipping back until it hits 9610 then it gets pulled forward. Once it reaches Southampton it's then also pot luck. My cousins car arrived at Southampton about 10 days before mine. Yet his car is still at Southampton and mine has been delivered! Overall mine is around 3 months from order to delivery. |

Thanks for the replies,
Seems the general consensus is 12 weeks and most have been under promised and over delivered. Quote:

The dealer has not been able to update me on delivery other than saying it would be here by the end of this month because it was being built in South Africa. They were a little embarrassed when I said that the plant code in the VIN was Spartanburg and that the Genius had advised (at the time) 9th to 11th August. First world problems |

After a lot of nonsense and what can be described as misinformation (at best) the dealer admitted that they sat on my order for 3 weeks because they didn't have an allocation.
Latest genius update for delivery has slipped to week commencing 26th August. When asked why it was delayed further I got this excellent update "Sometimes delays happen for double checks on the car and to make sure everything is ready and set for you to and has met all the requirements in relation to your car. We are not given the exact reason for the delays nor they come up on our system. " Getting on for at least 21 weeks for delivery now. The lack of information is shocking. I believe that they are shipped from Charelston. Does anyone know what vessels are used for shipping to Europe? Thanks in advance. Regards Dave |

I have literally just ordered my new X4 this morning, and have been given a delivery date is 20th September.
Base build, just metallic and towbar options, so a bit boring really.... |

I was tempted to can it and go with another dealer who quoted September delivery on an order this week but it could end up sitting waiting for a boat again and it may sound odd to say but I don’t want the LCI. |

It’s still at 9000, has been for the best part of 4 weeks. Apparently according to the dealer (taking a massive pinch of salt based on previous info from them) they come direct to the uk now.

BMW status is at least a day behind, so mine didn't change to 9620 until the ship arrived at Southampton. There was a ship that left Charleston on 18th June, your car most likely didn't make that one and it looks like you didn't make 23rd June either. Most likely on the 29th June ship arriving at Bremerhaven on 20th July. I would check your status on 21st July. All of this is educated guess and it's what I went through and experienced. Link to shipping site (bearing in mind that BMW sometimes uses different carriers) https://www.2wglobal.com/ Link to site to track ships https://www.marinetraffic.com Also note that estimated date of delivery is based on 9000 code and 6 weeks from that. Once it hits 9610 you have a more accurate date. |
