Boomerang trim removal how do.
Having dropped on and picked up OEM Gloss Black full boomerang trims I thought I'd try and write up a guide on how to complete this job.
Difficulty - Easy enough, take your time. Tools needed - Plastic trim removal tools, kneeling pad and patience. Time taken - 20mins per side taking it easy. 9 clips holding the trim on Rear of new trim Start at top with trim removal tools where the clips are located Work to the outside/left side as you look at the car Then to the right Parking sensor removal, lift clips and push sensor from front The matt black scoop comes away with the trim easily, remove it as it's easier when refitting Scoop removed from trim to be re-fitted after new trim has been fitted All removed Don't forget to remove the rear blanking cover from your old trim and fit to your new trim, this pops off easily Tips and things to look out for 1) You need confidence to take the trim tools to your PnJ, the trims are very forgiving but don't force anything, patience is key. 2) Refitting of the trim is easier with matt black scoop removed. 3) When refitting the trim, start at the bottom as these are guides not clips at the bottom and make sure all the clips line up with their respective holes before you push it home, I found it easier to press it home from the inner side first (nearest the scoop) ensuring all clips were lined up before pushing it home. I had to pop both mine off again after not quite getting one of the clips clipped in correctly. 4) Refit the scoop last, learnt this on the other side after fitting the first trim with the scoop still attached. 5) Stand back and admire your handywork once completed Once completed, you'll end up with the god awful Cerium Gray bits banished for good. Hope that helps those who are thinking of this. |

I literally just picked mine up from the shop because I couldn't figure out how to get behind it to pop the clips out. I had no idea you could do it from the front....

Nice write-up. I originally wanted to do one when I swapped mine but I was too impatient to stop and take photos along the way and then actually write anything up.
I left the little scoop in when I swapped mine so it is possible but does make it a little tougher to take out and fit the new ones it..but can be done.

Nicely done. My fav mod for peeps with white X3's is to paint the "scoop" white to match. I think that looks awesome.
Again, nice writeup.

Looking to have mine wrapped in gloss black film next week. Would you recommend removing the pieces for the installer prior to wrapping or leave them on for the wrap job? Thx

I'm actually now looking at taking these Cerium bits off for either wrapping or painting so that I can move these on. |

Any idea how to take these clips out so you can get just the boomerang piece off?

Those clips are a pretty fragile and I'd not recommend trying in all honesty. I tried for some time to see if I could remove this trim for wrapping myself but gave up as the Cerium/Silver tabs are only plastic and need to be pushed one way while pulling the black tb the other way. I did release a couple of them but couldn't get any joy with the rest and admitted defeat. Because of the force needed, they will break I'm afraid, I gave up and sold my bits on for good money anyway but I take it you want to remove and refit, if so, be very very careful indeed. Sorry I couldn't help more than this buddy. |

Does anyone know of places that sell the gloss black boomerangs other than the obvious $400 IND pair?
