2018 vs 2019 M40i

Why is there a power output difference between 2018 & 2109 models?
When did this happen?
What is the difference?

Would a December 2019 built vehicle have the extra power?

There was no power difference between MY2018 and MY2019. MY2020 received updated engine (B58TU vs previous B58T0). Lots of posts on this if you search.

Hi,
There is actually a slight difference 354 vs. 360hp.
I believe the newer model gained a particulate filter and a quieter exhaust without pops and bangs.
Cheers
Steve

Here in the USA, both years are 355HP.

Yes, Dec. 2019 built model will have the extra power (at least here in the US).
Here is what I found (https://www.motor1.com/news/386766/b...-more-power/):
"After announcing earlier this year that it would bump the power of the M550i, BMW USA is now lifting the output of two additional M Performance models for the 2020 model year. Our colleagues at Motor Authority have learned from BMW spokesman Oleg Satanovsky the X3 M40i and X4 M40i are being upgraded from 355 horsepower to a healthy 382 hp. The extra 27 horses have been unlocked after tweaking the engine management, increasing the turbo boost pressure, and making changes to the exhaust system."

December 2019 build is a 2020 model year. 382hp. 2020 model year started in production Sept 2019. I haven't seen any in August 2019 as of yet.

I think in Australia the power output (and torque) were identical between 2018 and 2019. But yes as another poster above pointed out, the power output has increased for 2020 (as well as Idrive 7).

In previous research I found that in Australia the petrol particulate filter came standard from Aug 2019 build onwards.

As far as I can tell the only difference between 2018 and 2019 is the placement of the rear badges?
