I looked EVERYWHERE for the same thing when I first got my car. It took a lot of research and failed attempts (there was some mis information about EBC red stuff saying it will fit the M40i). Then I ran across these from Rock Auto. Insanely inexpensive and they work great for me! If you do any sort of tracking, I'm sure these would be a bad choice, but great for daily driving and I have almost no dust.

The brake dust is the one single thing I absolutely cannot stand on this car! In one week of easy driving it is nuts how much brake dust is on the wheels.

I replaced mine with 500 miles on the car. Didn't want the new wheels to have brake dust on them.

I had about 200 miles of experience with the OEM pads (Bought the car with 280 miles on it), so it's hard for me to really give you a good comparison. If they have less bite to them, it's minimal to me (like all ceramic pads I've used). So far these have performed the same as Akebonos on my 06 and 2012 E90/92, and EBC red stuff on my 2017 M240i. Only difference I've noticed between the 3 is these compare more to Akebonos with brake dust. I have noticed almost nothing on my wheels since installing them (currently have 2k on my M40i). Hope this helps.

Stock pads dust big time, but ask the guys that run Akebono or similar pads about initial bite/cold stopping power- if they are honest they'll tell you stock pads are superior in this respect.
For a street driven daily driver I know that almost always when I need maximum stopping power my cars pads are cold/ambient temp thus I choose to put up with the trade off of a lot more dust for improved stopping power. If one is auto-crossing or tracking the car, where the brakes are being used frequently and are staying warm/hot then a ceramic or other hard pad surface pad will exhibit less 'fade' and is clearly is the better choice. |

The initial bite of the OEM brakes is fantastic but come on BMW. Pad technology has improved to the point they should be able to provide a pad that does make dust like a bag of Kingsford charcoal and still stop. I am holding out for Akebono.
As I side note I am a fleet manager for a City fleet and police vehicles were a problem with brake wear and noise until we switched to Akebono. They can handle some serious abuse!

I've been running Akebono's for 15+ years on my X5 and Suburban and they are a dream. Been talking to Akebono rep since before I took delivery of my '19 M40i, begging them to make a pad for this vehicle; no such luck yet.

Me too! I called and talked to product development. It is on their radar.

Alias 1431,
I haven't checked with Akebono lately but this refreshed thread is now a reminder for me to do so! I'll call on Monday to investigate - will report back. You'd think I would have thought to do so as I'm toiling away on my dusty wheels every week (sigh)... |

$25 for pads? I mean if you're only caring about dust over braking performance then sure but I'm not so sure that 25$ pads can act, feel and perform under heavy heat compared to the BMW Brembo pads.
Not all pads are the same. Just fyi |

I was definitely skeptical! 7k in and no issues

With that said, these have performed the same as any more expensive (akebono, red stuff, etc) low dust ceramic pads I've used in the past. I'm very impressed considering the price. I expected this to be a failed experiment to get me by until some quality pads become available, but I am happy with these so far. |

I see they actually ship to UK, so even with shipping and VAT they're still only £44! Might consider them. |
