2020 X3 M40i Tune

The 2020 X3 M40i has the new engine which produces 382 hrspwrs

What tunes are available or would be recommended to be tried and trusted, and which brands/tunes should M40i owners stay away from?

I have seen a lot a different talk on separate threads but nothing consolidated.

There are off the shelf tunes, plug and play options, or is a best option for dyno tune.

And this is for someone who would rather keep their M40i "stockish" maybe an intake and an exhaust. Were not talking about a full build E85, forged everything SAV.

Thanks!

Test drove 2020 M550i with the new engine, 523HP, and it drove just the same if not worse (more turbo lag) than 2018 M550i with 456HP. I wouldn't immediately believe that 2020 engine is going to be a stronger/better performer in M40i application until you see some hard data.

Sure. Agreed. Whatever the actual performance is. Any tune will still increase performance. And thats what we all want to find out and share input on.

Most X3 stay away from JB due to jerkiness on part throttle.

I like Mission Performance, others MHD and still waiting for some real times from a BM3 user!

I’m on JB4 map 1 or 2 isn’t too problematic. Map 3 and up gets a bit jerky

If that's true, it could be due to emissions goals.

Hmm yeah Im reading on other forums and G01 owners mainly mention Mission Performance or MHD. MHD seems a lot easier since the app and cable is needed to connect and youre done in 20 min. Mission Performance is more involved with actual tuner contact, from my understanding.
I dont know about price difference, reliability, or actual gains compared between the two. Still looking into this.

20 min?

I just needed a cable and laptop. Once I connected the tune loads in around 30 seconds and then I’m done, whole process around 5 minutes for the very first flash and about 1 minute for updating flashes.

BM3 says they are on the way with their B58TU tune in the 2020 X3 M40i. Considering they have one for the Supra and probably the M340i now they should be close to being complete considering they're essentially the same engine.

Unless there's some major change between the f25 and the g01 chassis for mhd coding, I can't believe any tune loads in 30 seconds. Can someone confirm G01 flashes are that much faster?

I know for a fact the mhd coding on the f25 chassis is 40 + minutes for the initial flash, and about four minutes for subtle changes to the flash. It took close to 40 minutes to revert back to stock flash.

The more BHP is to do with emissions and the new filters etc that they now need to use.
Higher Bar pressure to burn off more soot etc...

I was just looking at Mission Performance and didn’t see a tune for the X3 M340i — is one there? Also, anyone have experience with the MHD?

Hmm you're right. I stand corrected. I was looking at the transmission tune for the B58. Which seems to be available for the 2020M40i. But when looking at the B58 MP ECU tunes they have other ones that obviously you see but they don't specify the G01. I guess someone could reach out to the tuner?

The problem with the 2020 X3 and X4 m40i tunes right now is that no one has a tune for the new ZF 3rd gen 8HP51 transmissions... The 2020s have the same transmission as the 2020 Supra and the TCU hasn’t been cracked yet...

HA. Welp I will just drive a stock car, or better yet put a car cover on it until the tuners and performance parts manufacturers decide to show the 2020 G01 B58 driver some freaking love.

Not yet available from BM3. They are still in development. I have reached out them.

2020 M40i

Hello People. First time BMW owner but not new to the tuning scene. Am I correct to assume that any tune that states "2017-Present" doesn't really mean that since the 2020 M40i is a new engine?

It depends where in the world ... 2017-2019 in USA is different to that in Europe due to the PPF Euro regs had fitted (and Euro lost 5bhp in the meantime too from the same engine).

Late 2019 / MY2020 for Europe seems to be back to 360bhp but USA and rest of world is at 382hp !

Go figure ...

I'm in the US so I have the 382. I sent MHD a message about it and awaiting their reply. Hopefully they are working on it.
