I think you might be on to something about a moonroof delete based on data from the US press release regarding headroom:

Headroom front (with sunroof) inches 41.1 (40.7)

I think the X4 looks better WITH the rails, X3 I am not sure.

Exhaust sounds very similar to S55 at idle and low revs.
Of all the videos I've seen with an exhaust note, this one doesn't sound so good.

Nah that's too much. Maybe on launch date but more realistically it should be similar to M3 which is about $850 for 80k MSRP
Plus they will sell zillions (okay tens of thousands ) more than M3.

I could not possibly disagree more with that statement. I had a non-ZCP and a ZCP... absolutely in no way shape or form did the 20 inch 666 M wheel ruin that car!!

17k miles and 29k miles respectively.

Did you own both to justify your statement?
I own both currently. Wife's non-ZCP is a much smoother/better ride on the 19s than on my 20s. Admittedly Texas roads suck, but I dread driving my car sometimes, and often choose hers on the weekend. If I had 19s, I think I would have liked it much more.

They came out with the SAVs first and then the M3 later. The SUV market is heating up. Almost might want to get this over an M3 for the practicality and off road ability plus it has Mx AWD with 500 horsepower. BMW on their A game with new models coming out every month. How often does Tesla drop a new model, once every 5 years?? S58 making it's debut in a couple months in an SAV they unveil the new model just a couple months before it goes on sale, no auto shows or camo reveals.

** the engine.... **

Anybody else underwhelmed by the engine a little bit too? I know it's too early to judge. And i'm sure it'll dominate the segment and win the best engine of 2020..etc.. But i was hoping for some break glass new technology. Like the loooonnng rumored electric turbos. Or some variant of a hybrid turbo F1 cars use (exhaust driven, but is also electric).

They may still be saving those for the GTS/CS variants. once can only hope.

Anxiously awaiting the tech bulletin. I'm sure there are more than a few brilliant improvements we're not catching on yet (the placement of IC, the plumbing for turbo, waste gate actuation, 350 bar high pressure fuel injection (vs 200 bar on S55) ..etc..

thoughts?

With the base M40i starting at €110k, I'm expecting the X3 M to be around €160k, 200k + USD
We get low prices on cars in US mainly because of lower taxes! I don't believe BMW intentionally trying to make less money off us!

I would likely go for glass roof delete. I'm sure it weighs a LOT more than 57 lbs. These things can weigh 100-200 lbs all in.

This is a critical point to those looking to modify. Lower compression means it will take a lot more boost. Add to that the forged internals, man this things going to be a tuners wet dream.

They are definitely fast in a straight line, but they are no M cars and have no M specific engine...

X3 M - $69,900
X4 M - $73,400
X3 M Competition - $76,900
X4 M Competition - $80,400

BMW has lost its ducking mind with this pricing scheme. Realize that these are “base” prices.

Get ready for 20-30% MSRP discounts.

Not sure I agree - pretty good relative discount to where the F85 vs. the F15 was offered and a better deal than the competition.

And the 18's are even nicer on high performance Continental DWS 06
32 psi.

I still have a new set of the Michelin's in the basement. I'll slap those on another set of 18's for spring/summer

X3M comp also has a lot of standard equipment. It looks to me like options are going to be mostly nanny/driver assistance tech related, which I personally don't about that much.

Yeah, suspect this comes down to personal taste - I prefer both without.

RealOEM has the X1 F49 25LiX one-piece moon roof unit at 56.52 lbs. (with the drive unit included) and the X5 F15 50i one-piece roof unit at 103.45 lbs. As G01 isn't a complete unit and the individual components don't have weights, I wasn't able to determine our Moon roof weight directly, so was guessing the G01 as in-between these weights. But if someone can measure F15's moon roof dimensions, we can estimate a rough wt/unit area and extrapolate to the X3M's since I've already measured our G01's (36" x 50", or 1800 sq in, ~ 50% of total roof surface area of ~3600 sq in). So if it is closer to the F15's 103 lbs. as you suggest, that would significantly improve stability, without a doubt (as the aluminum roof taking it's place would only weigh about 15 lbs).

Which may be the reason why the German version of the X3M and X4M brochure indicates that the 'M Drivers Package', which enables the increased speed limit to 285 km/h, cannot be ordered if the Moon roof is optioned ('nicht in Verbindung mit Panorama').

True! But I expected better straight line numbers than that given the competition in the segment.

Anyway it still sounds like an S55 so the M40i wins lol jk
