Some folks just used sticky putty to pull it off. Must have been a different year BMW.

Maybe they changed something in that model that prevents the button from pulling off.

Fitted X3M Competition style Grilles

Fitted a detachable towbar and the X3M Competition style gloss black Grilles at the weekend, £55 off ebay for the grilles and a perfect fit, they looked a bit odd by themselves against the white, but so glad to remove the old man chrome kidney rings, had to fit the M badge to add a little bling and make it look like how it should have come from the factory and less like an add on!

Wifey thinks it looks like a storm trooper..................she always did have an over active imagination, but I can sort of see where she's going with it!

Next, it's black mirror caps, dynamic mirror indicators and rear indicators, X3M side vents and Maxton front splitter (would love the 3D design front splitter but at £1600 its out of my budget for accessories, wish they'd make an ABS one rather than carbon, it would be a more reasonable price. Lets hope our friends in the peoples republic of corona virus read these forums and copy it soon!)

Other things in mind are to have the little bit OTT black M performance decal that fits in the lower grille opening made and fit it, but without the M Performance logo to make it more subtle, remove the chrome badges from the lower tailgate and fit the black X3 M competition badge high up with the competition logo removed.........then, that's the outside complete!

Moving to the inside, mine doesn't have wireless charging, but I've just ordered a wireless charger (from ebay), that looks like the factory one when fitted, I see someone else on the forum has already successfully fitted one and I hate charging cables everywhere!

Then, get on my Bimmercode app to see if I can get the speed limit info and digital speedo to work in all modes, if not, its a cheap HUD so I can have the digital speedo on the windscreen, I just want the speed not all the other crap that they seem to come with, this was so useful in saving my license when driving my F31 shadow edition that has just been passed down the family line!

Hey there, looks great! Definitely like a storm trouper--your wife is right!

Interesting to see that the X3MC grilles swap easily. Does your car have the active kidney grilles?

Hi,

Yes, they're active!

Below is the ebay link for the ones I purchased, they came beautifully packed with plenty of packing.

BMW Connected drive

So after a month of waiting for BMW Connected to figure out why my app doesn't work I'm told to take it to the dealer. The dealer needs to open a TSARA ticket. They said it's a hardware issue and the dealer needs to talk with BMW of America. It's supposed to take at least 2 days. My app hasn't worked since I bought my 2020 new in December.

Color matched license plate frames added today! Finally warm enough to paint. Ordered the frames from Amazon for $14 each. Powder coated (black) stainless that look to be very close to the type IND sells. I had some etching primer already as well as clear acrylic lacquer so the only thing I needed to buy was the Phytonic Blue paint. I have at least enough to do another 2-4 frames if these need touch up in a couple years. Painted them outside and let them cure inside for a few days. Mounted with the included stainless steel hardware and screw caps that I also painted. I'm happy with the way they turned out.

Did I read correctly that you’re planning on putting an X3M badge on your 3.0d?

So what? If he likes it, just go for it. I think it will look great. I do not want to go into the "But it´s not a real M-car" debate. Do what ever you want to make your car look great for you!

I just dropped her off at the dealership for the TSARA. I received a new 2020 X5 40i. The brakes on the X5 are really weak compared to the X3 M40i.

Not going to go into the debate either, and of course everyone has the right to do as they wish to their property, just as I have the right to express an opinion. IMO, not a good look when someone who knows the difference, even just from the outside, in a proper M and a M30d, calls you out and laughs at you at a stoplight. Same reason I could never wear a fake Rolex; I’d never want to be caught with my pants down and made to look like a fool. IMO the M badge on a 30d is foolish. Get the real thing or don’t act like you have the real thing. But to each his own!

And they're still not an 'M'. (this is someone coming from a M40i, who is under no illusion about actually owning an 'M' car)

I have door projectors with the M slide. What do the badge police have to say about it? You do you.

Couple things here. First, the 2020 M40i (at least here in the states) is factory rated at 382 HP, and 365 lb. ft. of torque, at 4.4s 0-60 MPH. So, suck on that. Secondly, that is completely opposite of the point. ITS NOT AN M CAR. ITS A FUCKING DIESEL (nothing against diesels, it’s just not an M engine). It's not about whose car is faster, it's about not diluting the M brand by slapping it on a car thats undeserving. Sure if you like some extra M badges here and there, go for it, but putting an "X3M" badge on the rear trunklid in an effort to make the car appear to be something it's not, is the issue. As I said before, not here to debate. Everyone can do whatever they please to their property. I'm just here to express my opinion that I don't like it!

Why should I, or any other non “true M car” owner, care about the M brand’s dilution? Anyone that knows a difference even exists between a M40i and a X3MC wouldn’t be fooled by that badge anyway. Having said that, I prefer to remove model badges.

Sure, I was all set to hit they buy button on some curb feelers and now you're all making me feel bad my car has an M on it. Time to get out the heat gun I suppose.

I have no experience with M cars other than I test drove a 2018 X5M. I ended up buying the 40i. The X5M was fast, but it was also BIG and didn't feel as nimble. To each his own.
