Any reason why I shouldn't by an 08 e83 6 Speed?
Hey guys, here's where I'm at. Half of me says get it and just work on the issues when they arise, the other half says just stay away.
Here's the problem, I can't find a 6spd truck/suv anywhere and this one fits the bill nicely. It's an 08 x3 with sports seats and a 6spd. When I look at the car I see, n52 engine (reliable), common BMW problems oil leaks, water pump, etc (I can handle that), 6spd transmission (easier to work on & reliable), can tow my jet ski (with trailer hitch I'd have to install) Then I see the problems with that car, leaking sunroof, actuator gear (seems easy enough to fix), other gremlins? Anyway the car has 76k on it and was a CPO .. so 2 owners. I haven't looked at it yet but I am looking for a beater-ish AWD vehicle that can compliment my RWD e92 335i. I've been looking at these cars for a while, mainly b/c of their transmissions and personally I like the way they look. Overall from all the research I've done online they seem like a 50/50 shot of being reliable or being a nightmare. Any help is much appreciated. Also they are asking about $9k for it and say they're flexible ... probably priced not bad, but I am thinking I'd need it cheaper to budget for the maintenance. |

What part of PA are you in? And how soon are you looking? Mine has become surplus but has higher miles than the one you're looking at.

$9K is about right for such low miles, sport package and a manual. The manuals tend to go for about 2K more than the automatics.
As for reliability they are very good. The problem is they don't have a cult following like the 3 series and most owners have dealerships do their work for them (where the horror stories come from). If you can work on them yourself, they're just like any other BMW. You also have to look at other platforms for DIY's etc sometimes to find more information. For example, i was looking at the 3 series forum for a stalling issue on the N52 because theres just nothing out there for the X3. |

I have an 08 manual M-Sport with sport seats and 140k KMs. No issues. Very reliable. However I take care of my X3.
