Repaired the Ashstray lid: 20 minutes/ $2
Writing this to hopefully help others save $400 by switching to Gei... Sorry, that's the commercial.
Essentially the ashtray operates on the same principal as a pen. There is a metal pin that sticks out on the right side of the lid, and engages a little diamond shape track to hold closed, pressing it down changes tracks allowing it to open. To take off the lid merely press inward on the pivot points and remove it. More than likely your pin broke off, with possibly some of the plastic. I found mine still inside the ashtray, and reattached it with superglue (less is more "strong") and then used tiny pieces of paper towel with a dab of superglue to soak them to reinforce the area and prevent a repeat. The only difficulty was on reinstall, I used a Popsicle stick to hold the spring back whilst installing the ashtray lid so it would engage correctly. Easy fix, save replacing the whole piece, and gf was happy. Win win. Hope this helps someone else. Last edited by Onizukachan; 08-28-2015 at 04:28 PM.. |

4 years and an additional 75k on the clock and the repaired ashtray lid still works like new.
