N55 MHD Stage 1 E85 tune
Just wanted to make a post about running e85 with the MHD stage 1 tune on a 15 x3 n55 with the pwg (all f25s are pwg). Runs great and pulls about a 4.5 0-60.
Tbh car feels better than stock running Costco 92. Stock I had some minor start up shake and small idle variation. That’s gone running e85. Stock fuel system, stock everything. Added the burbles on oem setting, very fun! This tune is very attractive to me in MN with abundant e85 access at about $2.50 a gallon. Less boost on the turbo means I don’t really need to worry about the charge pipe too. I have an ARM Motorsport charge pipe on hand but I don’t see any reason to install it unless it breaks. Figure I can limp it home and install it if needed, any long trips I’ll just bring the pipe with and have a nearby shop install it. Fairly minor mpg drop that is more than offset with premium costing north of $3.50. |

I would change the charge pipe anyways if you already have it. Why wait until it blows? What if it breaks when you’re a far distance from the house, or just at a bad time and place? Somehow when I had my 335 with the N54, the stock charge pipe never broke on me even when I was pushing about 450whp daily. On my X3 the charge pipe blew out on MHD Stage 1.
Be mindful of how much E85 you’re putting into the stock fuel system too. Rule of thumb with N54 and N55’s is that you don’t want to exceed a E40 mixture (really like E35-E40 is pushing it). The stock lpfp is good for 500whp but the HPFP is going to be the weak link. |
