What underseat Subs? Focal vs. BAV vs Other?

Looking for recommendations on Subs...So here is whee I am at in the process of building out my S676 stock system(or lack there of now)...

Match 7UP DSP livened up the stock speakers but muddy. Focals for the doors and center. The Focals solved the mids and highs - currently have to stock subs cranked(via DSP Amp) underneath. The Focal subs are pricey.

For grins, I added cheap powered sub in spare tire area. Still very little punch. Not looking to over whelm in bass but want to feel punch. My music genre is all over the place.

I have been doing some readings on this forum as well as other places...Currently looking at BAV and Focals - I know there may be other choices so I am asking for advice and opinions - I really want to get this piece of the puzzle right. My investment costs are rising

Thanks in advance.

The base system. Not sure how missed the reply or lack there if to your question.

I think based on other posts I will end up going with Quakes.

I just installed the Earthquake subs (2ohm).
Have Audison in front/rear doors, Bavsound in center.
After initial sub break in of about 10 hours, everything sounds much better!

Sub install was a royal pain, be careful reinstalling the seat bolts, do not force them or they will strip the threads.

curious on what powered sub you added to rear storage ?

btw: I replaced stock under seat subs with Match . A lot of work & expense for a slight benefit . I think its the design that holds this area back.
I installed a Sound Ordinance B-8PTD ($190) and I'm satisfied .
Will it rattle the rear license plate ? Not even close

Yes that’s the one I installed. It is ok. I finally figured out how to tune the stock subs better. They have a little more thump. But they start spitting when I get into moderate volume. Obviously they are not a fan of the power being given to them.

Agree on the pain for the sub install. The stock subs on my 23 were glued into the housings. I pretty much destroyed the stock subs trying to get them out. Not a big deal since I wasn't going to use them anymore, but it would have just been easier to buy new housings and put those in. Also the housing was a super pain to get reseated properly under the seat.

Don't really know - have you looked on the BAV site for recommended installers? I would think most places would be willing but always wondered if you are bringing your own eggs, will they cook them for you?

I'm sure any car audio place could do it. Its very straight forward if I was able to it with my zero experience. I took all of my Bavsound speakers to a local place and they wanted to charge me $1100 so I did it myself. It was a pain, but I got it done and I was happy I saved the money. I took my M8 to another place and they were googling how to take apart an M8 as I was talking to them (that gave me confidence) and they wanted to charge me potentially $1800 for all the speakers. With the X3 there are plenty of youtube vids that either you can use or the installer would be able to use no problem.

The X3 is not that difficult except for the subs. Just watch the install videos and go SLOW. You don’t want to break anything inside your doors. A local stereo shop place quoted me $1000 for just the speaker install, said it would take up to 7 hours.
I was very careful and was able to install all the speakers in about 3 hours total. The subs alone were another 2-2.5 hours.

Lots of folks using the Earthquake SWS subs. I have a Kicker HS10 from my previous vehicle that was never installed. Now that I have the 7DSP in hopefully that sub will be enough. Should be installed in a week or so.

Would be interested to see what you think about the HS10 in the X3 - no RCA on that guy if I remember right. Curious how you will have installed once complete...

Coming from the Harmon Kardon system, I'm not detecting any real improvement. I thought the sound would have cleared up. Am I asking too much of the stock amp?

Have you broken them in with ~12h of playing? I can tell a difference with mine coming from HK.

Not yet. I'm holding my breath that the new amp becomes available soon...

Definitely wait until they're broken in before you pass judgment. I noticed a change with time

From the Kicker instructions: "The input wires, white and gray and white with black strip and gray with black stripe will
connect to the optional KISL speaker wire to RCA adaptor"

The KISL is just a speaker wire to RCA adapter. I'm going to see if I can get it all hooked up tomorrow. Does anyone know if there is something in the Match tuning software for the Line Out to activate?

Anyone reviewed scientifically the differences between AlphaOne and Bavsound? There are a few on Youtube saying the AlphaOne subs are better designed to work with the OEM HK amp than Bavsound.

Yes there should be in the IO tab - give either the subs or doors.

My take away from a thread I found was that the Bavs and A1s were about the same and sort of leaned me towards the quakes. Better response at least on paper anyways.

Interested to see how these do for you. I haven't added the subs to my Match amp yet. I am considering a remote tune as well.
