Absolutely. I can’t find the thread right now but it seems to be scaring people off more than the past.

I mean why wouldnt you be worried? I think anyone that tunes or modifies their car knows that dealers will find out or potentially deny a warranty claim. From other posts we know that BMW is trying to detect tunes. And it seems more frequent. So I only assume when you go for simple maintenance they perform this scan. When before clearly it was when you actually had something broken.
1. We dont know what is the exact outcome of these notes.
2. Yes all tunes or engine mods are detectable. But also nobody has said that if they reverted their DME back to stock. And this simple check found it right away?
I know first hand which was already posted that dealers know everything about your car, too speed, driving habits. Just how far do they want to dig into the past is the question.

Well considering any tune you should know that YOU are responsible should anything go wrong. You can void your warranty if something happens. And BMW can always tell whether or not you had/have a tune. Even if you flash back to stock and relock the DME.

Gotta pay to play.

Oh damn.. cause i believe BM3 told me they can flash it back to stock and reset the flash counter to zero. That's why i was asking, you think even with resetting the flash counter to zero they'll still detect it??

Again yes of course BMW can still detect it. You can never clear anything back to complete 0. Or delete all data completely from DME. It may erase from the first layer of data however that works. Or first 2 lets say but its still there if BMW wants to dig deeper.

Oh wow that sucks, guess I'm really gonna have to think about it then. I mean I didn't plan on going to crazy, just the tune itself no bolt on.

Yeah, I was looking at a Stage 1 (91) tune. Very conservative; just wanted more smoothness, really. Now...

Carbahn tune w/factory warranty retention

It doesn't seem like there are any posts on the forum from anyone who has pulled the trigger on the Carbahn tune. So In case, anyone else is interested in the Carbahn tune - I figured I'd post my 0-60 Dragy times before and after.

I am happy with the results given it's a more conservative tune. The car is noticeably faster when I just punch it from a roll. However, I am a little disappointed that the burbles/crackles/pops disappeared when the tune was installed. The car also doesn't launch as hard as it used to as seen by the increase in the 0-10 time.

The total cost with the warranty option installed at my local dealer was $1934.

Cool post with good info. But geez thats costly. There's clearly a increase in power shown from your dragy which I always like to see. I'm running BM3 and while there is absolutely no dealer warranty and mine has already been voided from my first oil change at 7k miles.
But the options for loud burbles and start ups to flashing to a quiet ride or different tune is available with a on the fly flash which takes 1-2 min via app.

Can you go back to stock or change maps with your setup

Another option is to buy a second DME - they are easy e light to get out of the car. That way you can get it coded to your vin and a tube applied, and just swap your OG one back before a dealer visit

Also do you have an idea on what PSI boost you are up to now? It would be interesting how conservative Carbahn really is?

Not sure that would work very well considering the mileage would be different when swapping modules, especially with a DME. I would not go about doing this. It is possible you could get a manipulation dot on the instrument cluster by doing this.

Lol correct. I mean this was a easy thing to do in '99 on a Honda. But in 2020?

Thanks for finally getting some Carbahn data in here.
What year is your X3?
What are you impressions about smoothness while driving normally now?

I have a 2020 X3. Both those runs above are with a passenger, 1/2 tank of 93 oct, and a ~60lb hitch bike rack on the back.

The car seems just as smooth when driving normally just a bit more of a boost surge when you put your foot down.

Also, I reached out to CarBahn regarding the lack of overrun. I guess that was a mishap on their part and they're going to add it back for me.
