Well, maybe it's me, but if I'm planning on buying something, I make no assumptions. Trying to find as much info as possible without asking, then ask and confirm or refute them. But it's too late for that in this case. Live and learn I guess.

So i see BMW finally came out with the remote engine start on the 2022 model. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy that specific part and make it work on the 2020 models? Would it even work?

No because you need SP18 idrive 7 which is only on the 2022+ X3. Different hardware and not compatible with pre 2022 X3s. Not possible for OEM remote start on pre 2022 cars.

I may be in the minority on this topic, but having remote start on our X5 for a year and a half we have used it three times, two of which were testing! I do see the value when parked outside in a snowstorm or just a cold night that has left ice on your windows.

If I had remote start I'd only use it to hear my engine and exhaust startup while outside the car. Like pretty much walking up to it lol.

I just literally place the key so it makes contact with driver side window and lock, locks without a sound while running.

I just picked up a MY22 X3 M40i. I did not see remote start listed on the build anywhere and the dealer said that it did not have it. Looking in MyBMW, it says that I can add it via the services. Will this work for my X3?

If you can selected in the BMW Store it will work on your X3, actually it is available for the MY22 as an option when ordered or through the BMW Store.

It is available in the BMW store. It is at a cost of $300. I might do this. I know that I had it on my Jag, but hardly ever used it. I garage my car, but when we go out shopping and it is cold or hot, it is nice to have the car warmed or cooled as needed.
