If this feature was soooo importand to you, why don't you ask before the purchase?
Certain assumptions are made. To be fair I assumed the same and would like to have it but not a deal breaker for me.

Well, maybe it's me, but if I'm planning on buying something, I make no assumptions. Trying to find as much info as possible without asking, then ask and confirm or refute them. But it's too late for that in this case. Live and learn I guess.

lol freshxdough very true. No one said it was "sooo" important and we did ask the dealer thats why it was a surprise but not a deal breaker, after all its the wife car so not really my problem.

So i see BMW finally came out with the remote engine start on the 2022 model. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy that specific part and make it work on the 2020 models? Would it even work?

No because you need SP18 idrive 7 which is only on the 2022+ X3. Different hardware and not compatible with pre 2022 X3s. Not possible for OEM remote start on pre 2022 cars.

With the car started and the key away from the sensors, the horn will sound on my X3 - I assumed sure its part of the new keyless security BMW introduced to alert people when the vehicle is started and doesn't have the key in it.

As soon as the key goes out of range, the horn will sound twice. Then it keeps happening every 15-20 seconds until the key comes back into range...
Hold the key into the front window when locking, then the car think the key is inside and no honking
Lol just tried this today. Not sure why I didn't think of it before, definitely works. I used to wait until I walked away to do it so people didn't think I was honking at them.

Harvard calling soon to offer you a scholarship.

Hmmm, I tried this a few times and doesn't seem to work. Are you placing the keys all the way in the front where the dashboard is (obviously outside of the window)? I was doing it anywhere in the glass by the seats or the middle of the window and doesn't seem to work

I may be in the minority on this topic, but having remote start on our X5 for a year and a half we have used it three times, two of which were testing! I do see the value when parked outside in a snowstorm or just a cold night that has left ice on your windows.

Pretty sure this will never arrive in the UK/Europe as it's against the law to idle as far as I'm aware...

Edit: "Vehicle idling is an offence against the Road Traffic (Vehicle Emissions) (Fixed Penalty) (England) Regulations 2002. The law states that is an offence to idle your engine unnecessarily when stationary. If you fail to turn your engine off after being spoken to you may be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £20."

How do JLR get around this I wonder?

If I had remote start I'd only use it to hear my engine and exhaust startup while outside the car. Like pretty much walking up to it lol.

I just literally place the key so it makes contact with driver side window and lock, locks without a sound while running.

I just picked up a MY22 X3 M40i. I did not see remote start listed on the build anywhere and the dealer said that it did not have it. Looking in MyBMW, it says that I can add it via the services. Will this work for my X3?

If you can selected in the BMW Store it will work on your X3, actually it is available for the MY22 as an option when ordered or through the BMW Store.

It is available in the BMW store. It is at a cost of $300. I might do this. I know that I had it on my Jag, but hardly ever used it. I garage my car, but when we go out shopping and it is cold or hot, it is nice to have the car warmed or cooled as needed.
