Bmw X3 2010 F25 Drivetrain Fault

Hope some one can shed some light on a problem we have been experiencing over the last month or so, it all started with an warning message on the I drive stating "Drivetrain fault drive moderately and take to dealer or words to that effect" that's when the strange noise starts, I can only describe it as like something metallic toughing intermittently and a squealing sound this can stay for a couple of miles then stop and all is fine again.

there is no pattern to it and it can go several days without anything and start again

the care has been into two garages, one a BMW specialist and the only code they can relate this to is D02D58 Signal Wheel torque powertrain invalid transmitter DME but they don't know what is creating this code.

the car is running on 225/60/17 Pirelli star rated tyres all round.

HELP!!

thanks for getting back to me, since I posted this the car has had a complete melt down over the weekend, I have had pretty much every warning light come on, ABS, 4X4, air bag failure, DCS failure, brake failure, tyre pressure system failure, the list goes on, also went into limp mode ! and my power steering went heavy!

took it into the BMW specialist this morning and the main thing that it was showing that has failed was the rear near side wheel speed sensor!

hopefully this is the culprit they are replacing it tomorrow so I will update this thread, cross fingers

Had the car back today and the culprit was with a failed ABS wheel speed sensor. all working fine, also cannot fault Warranty direct as it was covered under their policy excellent service.

yea a real pain to identify as it originally was an intermittent fault and the garage (independent BMW specialist) could not pin it down, it only showed its self after it completely failed which produced a mass of faults, one of the faults was saying my inlet pipe to the turbo was disconnected??

It amazes me how reliant the car is on sensors to keep everything working correctly.

Spoke to soon unfortunately the problem with the drivetrain is still there.

any one got any ideas, it's been back to an independent BMW specialist several times and they have no idea what's causing the error code to come up, they have spoken to BMW and a master technician and still nothing.

Finally found the problem, put the car into another independent BMW specialist who identified a broken wire going to the turbo boost pressure sensor, repaired the wire and no more error codes or nasty noises, how a broken wire can cause so much of a problem, limp mode grinding and squealing sounds!!
