Wheel and suspension combo dilema
Ok, so I've decided on the X3 over a touring for the sake of my dodgy back (only the getting in and out).
Furthermore, after having borrowed my dad's 2013 20d in SE spec, I found it not too bad after a few days of finding it too soft (I've come from an E90 Msport which was quite hard, which I didn't mind tbh). It will be a 2016ish Msport model, but my dilemma is do I go for: - 20 inch alloys with Msport suspension deletion, or - Standard Msport alloys with Msport suspension Variable dampers are like gold dust but I imagine it would be the best of both worlds, though I've been informed they make little real world difference. It's more for the family than my back that I have this dilemma. Anyone have either of the above set-ups, or views? I know it is personal choice but I'd like some views on the difference you'd expect between the set-ups. Last edited by Heethster; 02-24-2020 at 04:16 AM.. |

Bigger wheels = thinner tires = rougher ride. Run flat tires = stiffer sidewalls = rougher ride. The truly variable suspension, yes, doesn't really exist maybe 1 in 20 vehicles or fewer. The normal "non sport" default mode is softer than hitting the button to go into sport mode.
As for what exact combo meets your threshold? Hard to say. Road conditions, # miles you drive, age of kids, if you actually care if they complain, etc. are factors as well. My 19" stock wheels w/ OEM replaced run-flats on shitty pothole roads hasn't ever been an issue for me / wife / 4 year old. But I've never owned the other cars you mentioned to compare to. |
