BMW deleted speedometer readout in 2019 X3

Went to the dealership for the camera recall 19V-684. They updated the software and now the digital readout of the vehicle speed is no more. Gone.

This is a cheaper model (trim level) with analog needles for the speed and tachometer, so it's not like I don't have any speed anymore, but still, it's annoying how they delete features in updates.

The green cruise indicator moved a millimeter or two to the left. So perhaps they reserved some space for whatever indication, but there's nothing in my model.

Stuff like this is what I remember when I read the tear-jerker articles how many millions of vehicles are sold on the secondary market with oustanding recalls. If automakers do this stuff, I'm not surprised if people postpone or ignore recalls. Heck, I did that too.

What's bad though, OEMs are moving forward with over-the air updates. It's going to suck big time when BMW starts deleting useful features remotely.

I don't have that version but are you sure there isn't just a setting in iDrive that needs to be checked in order to bring it back? When you get software updates some settings will be reverted.

Just a thought...

Same thing happened to me late last year after a software update, the option disappeared from iDrive. Mine was defaulting to kph on every key cycle, so they just removed it all together instead of fixing it.

Coded it back in with Bimmercode in about 10 seconds.

This is a known issue and there is an SIB related to it. Visit your local dealer and they will be able to program your car and perform the conversion "conversion to digital speed"

This also happened to me. 2020 model. Dealers in my area don't have a fix for the issue. Whatever the SIB is, they don't have access to it. If you get it resolved and get a SIB/TSB number, please provide. Thanks!

Thanks for the answers and suggestions, I'll keep this updated for the search and index purpose.

Here's the earlier thread that I missed:

Here's the thread by BeerHerder, probably the same problem with km/h mentioned above. It has pictures and the graphics is quite a bit different, with time and temperature on one line.

Recall on my X3 but no issues

I had the B663319 Program Control Units Rearview Camera recall done on my X3 in December and did not lose any display options. The 'posted' speed limit still shows up as it always had.
