Although I think the N20 does pretty poorly considering it's size, no way should you be getting 17-20 on the highway if you mean true highway cruising at 70 mph or whatever. You should be doing close to 30 mpg while cruising. As for your city mpg, that sounds low as well, but I have no idea how bad your traffic is. If you are sitting still you will get zero mpg. But the twin-turbo V8 in my 6 series does better than what your are reporting and my N20 does way better.

Thanks
I get around 19-20 MPG if I'm just driving around town and I get 25-26 for all highway. I have about 67K miles on my 2013 X3 xDrive28i.

If by 25-26 "for all highway" you mean 25-26 average miles for "highway" trips that are not just pure cruising but also getting off the highway for various stops, then that seems about right. When I said 30 mpg, I meant instantaneous mpg while cruising at a steady speed on more or less flat ground.

I often drive between Boston and NY, a bit more than 200miles at around 75MPH and for that I average 25-26MPG. On these trips, I usually stop once at a rest stop.

do not forget that, when car calculates MPG is based on UK galloons, US gallon is 3.785 liters and UK gallon is 4.546 liters. if cluster indicated 26mpg shoud be divided by 0.83, which is 21.59 miles per us gallon.

The X3 is my wife's daily driver and she averages 24.5mpg in 40% highway 60% stop-n-go daily driving. We get around the EPA rating of 28mpg on long trips. It is a Sdrive 28i with 73k miles.

I don't think this is true for cars delivered in the U.S.

I don't think so either. I always calculate mine manually anyway, and it's usually within a couple tenths from what the computer shows.

Maybe you are right, in Peru It is EU version. But it is easy to verify: change to L/100 kM and compare the values.
I already did it for my bimmer in peru (EU version), I can confirm the mpg are based on imperial gallon (4.5 liters)

You clearly have something wrong. Whatever it is, the long-term fuel cost of that low mileage is worth getting it looked at even if it costs quite a bit. An X3 is not that exciting that I would keep one if it was getting that mpg. My 2014 X3 averages like 16.5 on a tank that is all around-town errands. But any mostly highway trip is very high 20s. You are seriously getting way worse mileage than my 650 which weighs way more than an X3. In pure stop and go errands on city streets it averages about 14 mpg.

Wait, I just realized that you said you average 10.8 mph, not mpg. That is really slow, and a whole lot of sitting. My in-town errand average is around 19 mph. But again, if your highway mpg is only 17-20, then that is the best indicator something is wrong.

on my wife's 2016 X3 Sdrive28i, she gets around 17mpg on her daily commute (average speed about 20mph). On long highway drives, if we keep speeds below 70mph, we can get about 26 to 27 mpg.
It's basically been this way since new. it's got about 30k miles on it now. Had dealer check it while it was under warranty and they found nothing wrong.

Pretty bad compared to my wagon which has a 3.5l V6 wit more power (302) more torque, is all wheel drive and weighs more. I get similar around town average (17 or so mpg) but highways I easily get around 30mpg on long drives at speeds up to 70mph.

Yeah, to me the poor mileage is really the biggest disappointment with the car. It replaced an XC90 V8 in part to save on gas, and while it is better it is not much better. A 2014 Audi A4 which also has a 2.0 liter turbo 4 will average 26 mpg combined city/highway. Not sure why the N20 is so thirsty.

If you're not getting close to the window sticker mpg with your 4 banger, either somethings wrong with your car or you're not driving efficiently (jack rabbit starts and hard stops) aka the binary driver. And if you're crawling in the city, don't expect to get much mpg. It takes a lot of energy to get a 4200 lb vehicle up to speed from a dead stop, so taking off quickly will suck up the petrol. There are many techniques to improving mpg and racing to the next red light is not one of them.

Not that this is an apples to apples comparison, but I average 22 mpg with my x35i in mixed driving and up to 30 mpg on a flat highway <70 mph, but driving it hard (less efficiently) the mpg drops substantially.

The range thing is pretty meaningless. It calculates based on what you did recently. Jump on the highway and it will go up instead of down. Go by what it says your mpg is not the range.

It's posts like these that make me grateful I'm averaging 33+ MPGs without having to watch my speed. I wanted an X3 for the AWD, but I waited until I found the right one for me: the oil burner.
