Loaner deal 2019 X3 M40i standard suspension

I'm about to replace my wife's leased 328 GT Xdrive M Sport with standard suspension.

We are looking to upgrade to a more performance oriented car but still with comfort and love the practicality of the 5 doors.

I'm considering a good deal on a loaner 2019 X3 m40i with standard suspensions. I'm a little concerned as I see comments on the forums about the harsh ride of the m sport suspension of the m40i.

Do you guys think it will be better of worse than our current 3gt, as far as comfort? I know the driving dynamics should be much improved.

I DD a 228 and I'm planning to trade it for an M2C next year so I would like the X3 to be the comfortable car for long trips.

Thank for any input!

I have no complaints with the ride quality of my M40i with 21" wheels, RFTs, and non-adaptive suspension.

It will likely be dependent upon what you as the individual feel is tolerable as well as the quality of the roads where you live. I can say that my wife has had no complaints and she would defrost me know if she didn't like the ride quality.

Thank You. The car in question has 19" wheels so it will probably be even more comfortable than yours. This makes we feel better.

We leave in the Boston area and the roads around here are far away form smooth. Just wondering if it will feel much different than the current 3GT on a daily basis. It's hard to tell from a quick test drive...

I would think you'll be perfectly fine with the 19" wheels but hopefully a few others from the surround area can better chime in.

I have the 2019 M40i with non-adaptive on 19" RFT's. Love it... Takes a little getting used to, but feels very nice and sporty. It's all about what type of ride you're used to. If you've never experienced a well communicated ride where you can feel the pavement you're likely to need time to adapt.

Thank You, I think I know what you mean and my wife and I generally like sporty rides.

We will try to take a long test drive before pulling the trigger just to be safe.

I have the same - non-adaptive suspension with 19" RFT tires. In Chicago, the bad roads and potholes are not a problem. I like the stiffer suspension, personally. It's not uncomfortable.

I have the standard suspension with 19's. A soon as I got it, I replaced the RFT's with non-RFT Continental DWS06 (I had to because mine came with summer tires). The ride is a little better (less harsh) with the non-RFT, so that's always an option for you too.

Thank you for the feedback. The non-RFT is a good idea in case we feel the needs.

While you didn't specifically ask for feedback on purchasing a loaner, my wife's X3 is a former loaner and we've been very happy. We got a great deal and just couldn't turn it down.

Good luck...

In my opinion, I would never buy a loaner, especially in an M40i version. It's probably been rodded from the second it arrived at the dealership, with no proper break-in.

I've never driven the non-adaptive, but I'm guessing it's like being in Sport + damper mode ALL the time. If so, that would get old quick, especially on mediocre-bad roads.

19" standard suspension is a touch firm but not at all uncomfortable.
Without runflat tires its absolutely perfect.

Even for a leased car? My current 328 GT was a loaner and I'm very happy with it.

Thank You, I'm down for a little firmer ride if it is still comfortable and the option of Non RunFlats like others have pointed out sounds pretty good.

I am also from the Boston area and just leased the exact same car. I pick it up tonight. Which dealership were you looking at?

For a lease, I would actively seek out a loaner. There is no risk (warranty), and lower capitalized cost results in lower monthly payments.

I own both an MY18 30i with 19" RFTs and an MY19 M40i with 19" RFTs and the standard suspension.

I live in central Mass with some of worst roads in the state.

The two cars are as different as night and day.

The 30i is a sweetheart of a daily driver. The M40i is a beast. Yes, it's stiffer and that takes a bit of getting used to. The biggest difference IMHO is that if your car has lots of squeaks the M40i will feel stiffer than it actually is.

Search the forum for a post I wrote about fixing noisy door seals in the M40i with Shin-Etsu grease. That made all the difference for me.

Thanks for the tip. I had a X3 30i as a loaner last year and I was really impressed on how smooth the ride felt over bad roads. Much better than my current 3gt.

I know the m40i will not be like that as it's not suppose to, I just have to get over the paranoia of missing out on the adaptive suspension.

Would you daily drive your M40i? Because my wife will ...

2019 M40i ex-loaner w/ 19s checking in.

1) Both me and my wife daily drive it, depending on what I have going on that day work wise. No complaints from either of us on how it rides. In fact, only complaints from anyone was from my mother-in-law complaining the bumpiness was making her car sick on a Labor Day weekend road trip! . But for us personally, it's fine!

2) we decided to go the ex-loaner route rather than new 30i after negotiating down an offer we couldn't refuse. Next to no issues so far (*knocks on wood*) other than a rattle from driver door, which dealer quickly rectified.

I say go for it!

My M40i _is_ my daily driver. The 30i is my wife's DD.

I love 'em both. But like siblings, they're very different.
