Retrofitted 12.3 OEM screen in a 2019 G01 X3

Hi all! I am a new member here. I managed to retrofit the factory 12.3 infotainment from a G30 LCI 5 series to my 2019 X3 30i and thought I'd share. As far as I can tell, no one online has attempted this install yet as I have spent countless hours browsing to find if someone has done it before without success. But I still really wanted to get the big screen, so I decided to just try it out myself with the reassurance that I can just return the screen I bought if it physically won't fit.

As my car is running iDrive 6, coding was required to enable it to work and there are also some minor bugs but overall I am very happy with the result. The factory mount points for the screws are identical between the G30 and G01 so it was not too difficult to install. The only hard part was that the G01 cable connecting to the screen did not stretch high enough for the G30 screen, so I had to reroute it a bit to make it work. I really wanted a bigger screen in my car without having to trade for a 2022/23 because I actually prefer the general look of the pre-LCI X3 (just personal opinion) and did not want a car with any deletes. I also understand that this retrofit may not be to everyone's taste but this is just what I personally like!

Congratulations! Glad it worked out. The new LCI X3 can be optioned with it now… so it doesn’t look odd at all.

Doesn't look too bad. The rear shroud lines up perfectly with the dash?

Thanks for sharing, looks cool.

The LCI dash trim must either go higher or the screen mounts lower in the dash trim.

There is a small gap, but it isn't noticeable unless you look at the back, it is not visible from the front. I plan to get some black leatherette fabric to cover it up.

Yeah the G01 LCI dash trim is lower and the screen mounts are also different from pre-LCI, so it made sense to use the G30 screen instead since the mount points are the same as the pre-LCI G01

Nicely done ! I had a My22 loaner and that’s the first thing I noticed that was different on it. I think it looks great the way it is . No need for leatherette. Nice Mod

Screen was $600 and part number 65509855888 MarkoSK NY908K
I've covered the gap with leatherette so can't see it anymore but there was about an inch of a gap before on the back
2 main bugs - BMW nav does not work full screen by default and have to play around with the iDrive controller to get it fullscreen. And the animations when switching drive modes comfort/sport/eco pro is blurred

In ID6 it is in the menu, so I guess it's the same in ID7.

Hahahaha! I did this, too! Too much "tutting" when I did it before

x3g01: This is an awesome mod - well done!

It's an option called "Driving Experience Control". Have a look under iDrive Settings, Pop-ups and it should be there.

Uncheck Driving Experience Control to turn the pop-up off when you change drive modes.
