sawood711 overkill might be the way to describe the M3 for those of us who either had a lowered performance coupe/sedan and got over it or never liked it at all. For day to day driving I fear it would be too much thrill and not enough comfort.
You could always look into a Dinan muffler and res delete if that’s an option. It looks like a quality product. Even though it’s not a V8 you still get the closed deck block, air to water cooling, great day to day and track realibilty and all of the other benefits. Still, a dedicated weekend car with a V8 would be fun. I like the E93 M3. Top down, manual transmission and one of the best sounding engines of all time. That’s a bucket list car for me.

stoked335d I will keep that in mind! I like to 2020 the most personally, and the prices on the used market are pretty nice.
I’ll definitely do suspension, no question. That shouldn’t be an issue. Wheels/tires as well. I like the stock 20” non comp wheels for the size being smaller but the Dinan wheels are competitively priced and beautiful as well so that would be the go to option. I’m located in SoCal so winter here doesn’t give us any snow, but I will try to see if they’ll let me test drive the LCI as well just to see if there is any difference for me. I don’t mind tuning the engine on either car, changing suspension/wheels, etc if I need too.

The M3 Comp is a less harsh ride, than the X3m Comp. It's obviously easier to get in and out of the F97 and if you add the carbon buckets to the G80, then you'll exponentially increase the in/out difficulty. Haha!

TENPIN I noticed that with the buckets. It requires some focus unless you’re used to it and don’t worry about potentially rubbing against the side bolsters at the wrong angle. The side skirt is also more wide than other previous M cars which isn’t a big deal but the M2 for example is much easier to slide into for me.
I’ll definitely change the suspension on the X3M if I got one. Maybe since it’s so much larger, BMW M intentionally made it more stiff to compensate for the size difference over the M3. That’ll be an easy fix! I guess to put it simply, you get the M3 if you’re down to remove extra comfort/size to maximize handling, and you get the X3M if that extra performance isn’t needed and comfort/size is more important. It just depends on your stance on the topic and your individual needs. In a perfect world we have both with xDrive, and a manual E93 M3 for some top down, NA fun with a stick

Interesting, but pointless, observation I forgot to mention earlier. My M3 gets a fair amount of comments all from guys in the 20s. My X3M gets almost daily comments from men AND woman 30-50 mostly with young kids.

As for the exhaust I am not sure what I want to go with. I want a smoother and lower toned exhaust with more volume. Most I have seen is louder, but they add too much rasp for my taste. Maybe the sound will grow on me, but I do like the quieter cabin for most of my driving. |

Much lower tone and sounds much more like a V8 without any droning or rasp. I only did the axle back, could do a mid-pipe if you want more volume also.

95wildtt yeah, sadly my budget doesn't allow me to drop $4k on an axleback exhaust. I have found the more expensive the car, the more expensive the parts for some reason lol.

Mine has the driver assistance package and it works great for bad traffic jams going from 0 to 10 mph. However, IMO, traffic jams with speedS between 10 to 40 it is very jerky and sporadic with the acceleration and braking. That 0-10mph zone though, beautiful. Set the steering assistance on and you have a nearly hands free driving.

I’m mega late in this thread.
Coming from a 2020 M340ix to the 2022 X3MC was nice. It’s not the better performance but the ability to quickly get in and out of the car. I’m a big chubby guy and it’s easy for me to get in an suv vs a sedan. I also enjoy the higher ride height. It’s useful when it snows here. Late last year I bought a 65inch tv and was able to fit it in my x3m easily. I don’t think I would have been able to do that in an M3 or the M340ix without taking the tv out of the box. I’d say for every day utility the X3M is amazing. Now… if you have an suv already then absolutely go for the M3 because that car is so much fun! I had the pleasure to drive the M3 on the BMW thermal track and it was such an amazing car and well planted on the corners. For me, I only had the choice of one car since I’m single, but if I had the budget for another car then I’d definitely get the m3 and then a cheap sports utility vehicle. |
