Pirelli Scorpion Verde (all-season) vs Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV

Looking to see if anyone has made this comparison yet.

I mentioned in a previous post that the Conti Sport Contact 6s that came with the car have performed a little better than expected over the winter so far, but don’t give me a lot of confidence if even slightly pushing, especially on cold wet roads. I recently went through a small-ish roundabout in a “spirited” fashion and found all four wheels wanting to slide laterally.

So in a search for alternatives, I thought an all-season tyre would be a good compromise, and given the reputation of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, I thought the obvious choice would be the Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons. However, in the UK, they don’t come in the 265/40/21 size.

From an all-season perspective, the only option seems to be the Pirelli Verde. These can be supplied for the standard 265/255 set up but are also available in the 295 size for the often recommended 295/265 set up.

However, when searching, I also came across the Michelin Pilot Sport SUV which interestingly has a better wet performance rating (A) than the Pirelli Scorpions (B).

Just wondered if anyone has any experience of these in either the 265/255 or 295/265 set up.

James.

I think they Contis are horrible. Below 60 degrees they skip/spin every morning when I turn out of my neighborhood. They provide zero traction if its a little bit cold. I have had Michelins on other cars, no issue.

I just ordered the pirelli's (295/265) from discount tire because they had a $150 instant rebate this weekend. I believe it was 1600 all in with replacement certificates.

I am the OG of putting on 265/295 all seasons. I went with the Pirellis. The car has 47000 miles and the tires look like the will make it to 60 easily.

Thanks. Do you get any pushback in the US that the Scorpions only have a "W" speed rating. In the UK, the insurance companies can refuse to pay out if you put a lower speed rating tyre than what the car is supplied with as original equipment. This has made me pause a little in going forward with the Scorpions.

Thanks. I did specifically mention Scorpion Verdes in the title of the thread, but good to know there are other options out there.

Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be able to find Scorpion Zero in these sizes in the UK, at least not from the usual suspect suppliers.

Just a thought, I recently ordered wheels for a Toyota Supra from the UK shipped to the US and even with duties the shipping wasn't bad at all - like under $200 IIRC.

Would it be worth checking with some US suppliers to see how much it would cost to ship the tire size/model you want to the UK?

Michelins are really great tires. Once my Contis go bad I'll get them.

In the winter I run Pirelli Scorpions. Ok for a performance winter tire but not great in the snow - drivable, but not a "real" snow tire IMO.

The benefit is they perform better in dry than a real snow tire and we have not gotten any snow where I am this year.
