DIY cold air intake

Sharing a simple diy CAI mod for the bimmer that i did. I will be changing to double cone bmc filters.
Cheap mod cost me about 200$. About 3 hours to do its pretty straightforward.
badass mod for the effort and cost👍

4" tubing from intake to the front. (Its taight but be patient and work slow)
Mount filters.
Remove oem filters
Dont forget to clean the oem air/intakebox.

Hell yeah! Nice work! So the air box is just hollow now? Did you notice a change in sound being able to hear the turbos?

A little more sound from the turbo but not as much as from the b58 whit CAI but definitely a small improvement in performance.
The stock airbox is hollow, also removed the brackets that hold the stock filters inside the box

Are you worried about them getting water soaked?

This looks like a mod a kid would do to a 20 year old civic.

I'm willing to bet what you did has more negative implications vs positive gains.

better that you educate yourself so you dont lose money betting
Its a front cold air intake, a true CAI. Exist as a manufactured product for the m3/m4 f80/g80 x5m etc.

There already manufacturing and selling these intakes for the m3g80 but owners of an x3m dont have an option even the model is soon 3 years old, i gues the market for good performance mods for the x3m aren't there. Majority of people driving the x3:s dont appreciate nor understand this things.
One of the big drawbacks of the x3m coming from a m3 as my last M car

That means nothing unless you can back it with actual scientific numbers to prove it provided a performance gain.

And your statement means what? Haha

Il explain it for you. Tuned engine, higher turbobost. Filter that are less restrictive than stock and located in a position so you get colder air to the turbo equals more power.
Do you get it?

You probably should consider the risk of hydrolocking your engine when driving in the rain.

I definitely understand wanting to modify and improve performance. However I think the risk here outweighs the reward.

But, also not my vehicle. To each their own. Enjoy it!

Wow, tough crowd on here. Cold air intakes like that have been around for quite some time. Keep doing what you do.

Lol... TRUE™ Cold air intake... Dude this is the stock intake box still, better put scoop there and leave it. The stock airbox is good and current offering don't even offer any increase in power. Even a downpipe/exhaust barely give power. Custom E50+ tune and you trap 130-132... No need for any hardware.

I am not going to be negative as I appreciate Pai's attempt, but there are some facts that are important to include when talking CAI performance. Eventuri did quite a bit of development and found the stock intake to be very good, to the point where they did not find any noticeable gains and thus did not move forward with an intake system that deviates from the stock design. Also, while unlikely, whenever you expose filters in the front of the vehicle, you increase your risk of water intake or hydro lock.

unless the tubes connect directly to the intake manifold (entirely deleting the current airbox) then I don't see the point of this mod. same effect as simply replacing the air box filters and maybe adding some scoops i.e. Eventuri intake.
