MSS urban adjustable springs for X3 M

MSS has just released fully adjustable springs for F97. These springs belong to their 'Urban' line and are thus aimed at improving the ride comfort rather than deleting the last bit of comfort the stock BMW suspension has left. In MSS' words "this will deliver a smoother and more comfortable ride – perfect for longer journeys, the steering demands of city driving or maximising open road opportunities. Upgrade your ride quality and experience your SUV in a whole new way." I just ordered my set from Ben (aka r33_RGSport) and will be happy to share my impressions as soon as the springs are installed.

Curious to see a review on these and if they reduce high speed agility.

Also curious if they resolve the booms over bumps.

They wont stop boom over bumps. I have been doing a bit of research. Rear subframe is mounted to the body with hard rubber bushes. 99% sure thats where the boom is coming from. Hard rubber is like concrete.

I have H&R on mine but still too high. Interested to see how these look and how low they go

Made in England- how would they say those are some bloody Springs

Looks good, can you make a shot from the side off the Springs?
Like to see the pitch and ends

I agree. Unfortunately, the H&R springs doesn't make much of a drop. Tbh, I'm kinda glad the drop on stockers isn't too bad and liveable as oppose to my M3 and M4 'vert

You can't adjust Spring rate ones the Spring is made.

The only way to change the Rate is change the amount of coils, change the ends to be open/close, variable pitch, and wire size.

Depending on needs off the rate those needed to be changed by manufacturing a Spring.

As of now you can only change the hight which also changes the preload.

Here is example on variable pitch for rates.

Pitch number 1 is compressed first and pitch number 2 last. I make Springs that we can have triple or even quadruple rate.

Very difficult to do.

Phew.

Finished the installation. This car is about the same amount of work at F90 M5 or G30 5 series.

Almost half of the trunk covers have to come off to access the rear upper mount.

While the front, sigh, as you know. Need to remove the side plastic covers then the tower bar.
Also, it is hard to get the strut out from the carrier.
Even after spreading the carrier, I still have to use force by hammering the shoulder with a mallet.
It is about 2" deep.

But, my quick review, since I only put 10 miles on traffic.
It does give you comfort.
I would say, for you that think the competition suspension is too stiff, this MSS is for you.

I personally like the stock competition spring rate.
Just need to lower the car.

So, I may swap the spring when MSS offer the sport and track version.

What they have now is the Urban version.

I'll post picture of the car tomorrow.

Never thought to say. Took me ages to find the rear strut tops. Like you had the side panels off and my hands in everywhere lol

Yeah my wee tool for spreading the front suspension carrier was just not big enough. I ended up making a new one from an old bolt I had lying around.

Deffo not a 5 min job anyway

I hink it is easier if you have spare tire.
I don't have spare, so side covers have to come off just so I can remove the railing before I can see the strut top.
