It's not a new engine; just a slightly tweaked old one. Do you really think that you will be able to tell the difference between the 2019 and 2020 models of the M40i during regular driving (using a blind test, though I don't know how this would be implemented)? I doubt it--the torque is basically the same. You can always flash the 2019 model with a new tune. Will beat the hell out of a standard 2020 model.

You are not the only one. The new instrument cluster looks like crap to me. They clearly tried to maximize the central area of the LCD display for all the BS that can be displayed in the HUD or the iDrive display. I like having round speedometer and tachometer, and I especially like both needles to move clockwise.

Agreed, the live cockpit (cluster) looks like something you would configure on a playstation driving game. Another cluster_uck! |

Hate to pile on but I agree. I hate the live cockpit so much that I am looking at options from Porsche and Audi for my next vehicle. It's a complete failure and another sign that BMW has lost the plot.

I got mine 4 weeks ago. They told me there was no iDrive7, no HP increase. And my lease on my old car isn’t up till April. So I didn’t even need a car yet. Fuck those guys. I should’ve ordered a 2020

I love the live view cockpit. Was really nice in the X5 I had a seat in. The old digital one looks really dated. Live View and ID7 are what really change the interior vs the last two cars I've owned -2013 3 series and 2017 4 series. I'm looking forward to something new.
I hate the stupid plastic rings on the old digital dash. No need for those to be there on an otherwise full digital dash. |

And never ever trust your dealer to know what's coming. On multiple occasions I broke the news to the people at the dealership I went to when I still had a BMW. They're kept in the dark by BMW NA HQ until just before the new cars go on sale. |

I truly don't understand what's going on. In all systems the new cars show B58D. However the old engine info is present not just in the US order guide but also in the documents for several other countries I checked. Canada is the only, very weird exception. And this is why it would be so important for someone to eyeball the engine of an actual car and put an end to this mystery. |

Over the years...going back decades, various manufacturers have tried their hand at different dashboards always returning to the classic dials as they provide the best user experience
These are maybe where the BMW designers found their inspiration |

2020 is a strange year for bmw updates. They pulled major updates on unsuspected customers all over the board
7 series LCI pretty much gave them the new car with new engine 750 and all new tech M550 just did it at year change without Lci What is weird - is that 5 series and x3/x4 Only got half the tech updade. Bmw put the i drive 7 but stopped half way - no laser lights - no assistance pro self driving - no remote start - no key card - no digital key on phone - no drive recorder Only x5, 3 series and 7 lci got full update - and the x3 m is left completely in the dust with old tech and no i drive 7 - go figure |

I agree. But there's a glass half-full argument to be made as well. There are a lot of little upgrades in MY20 5 and X3/4. Put together, they're a big deal imo. BMW would usually leave most of those upgrades to the LCI, so we're getting them early. And I think that most of the stuff we're not getting now will come later in the MY22 LCI. The X3/4 M is a different story. The only thing I can image is that BMW wants use the M8 to rollout the M version of Live Cockpit Pro (which can toggle between different screen formats) and with it, iDrive 7. So first year of the X3/4 M are left without it. It's something I'd wait for if I was in the market for one of those vehicles, and I'll bet they'll be a lot of pissed off owners next spring when the MY21 models are released with both Live Cockpit Pro M and iDrive 7.

Unless you have a really savvy CA, dealerships know nothing about what's coming and might not even care. Your own research and the internet are far better sources in this situation. Never trust the dealer to give you the up to date information, they just want to make a sale from you, unless you find a rare dealer that cares about you as a customer and wants to get you what you want.

Also, I've just received an independent confirmation that there was an issue with the content of the dealer communication and the engine has in fact been upgraded. |

btw, do you whether new Guides have been released? I'd love to be able to order Extended Shadowline Content (a/k/a Cerium Delete) like Canada and the ROW.

Nope, you are definitely not alone. Experiencing both, I personally very much prefer the 2019 ID6 version.
