X3M punches way above it's weight literally & figuratively.

You’re unlikely to encounter a R35 GTR that is modified yet simultaneously that slow, or so I’d reckon. A more typical first round of mods puts them straight down to about 10.4 1/4 mile on the 20” wheels normal tires and no weight reduction (there’s exceptional race efforts that were faster, but who cares).

The GTR’s stock turbos are old and small. Add hybrid turbos and intercooler; and it’s now a 9.7-9.9s 1/4m (5.2-5.4s 60-130) street tire car. But your 10-15k in mods at this point, and the trans longevity is an expensive uncertainty.

I have a 2018 GTR. I’d have to say that there is no longer much logical reason to buy one. I feel that there are better platforms for everything now.

I am surprised the GTR doesnt start recovering a bit at the end, but no, X3 seems to still be pulling.

Problem with these races is there is no way of knowing the HP of the cars.

Either way, strong figures

It would prefer to see a stock X3M vs stock GTR...
You can do all kinds of crazy stuff with a tune on a turbo car, but how will it survive after 500 miles, much less 5000?
All of these race videos are with tuned cars, more interesting to see a stock vs stock in my opinion.
Agreed, stock vs stock is always great to see. More realistic for most cases.

Seems like limiting factor here beyond horsepower was the trans. Seems like with each shift, the gtr lost speed whereas the x3 just kept climbing.

Very impressive showing for the X3M... even given its higher curb weight.

I think the GTR is slowly becoming a dinosaur... yes it can be tuned to insane power but the tech is becoming lackluster. An M3C Xdrive with probably 100 HP less than that GTR would have still flown away.

I have the previous "killer supercar like AWD TT Platform" in my 95 Stealth (ie 3000GT) and would agree that while the GTR, like my Stealth, are great cars, they are outdated (mine is VERY outdated) as the performance formula and technology have moved on.
Still love it though and it turns way more heads than my X4MC does...

You’re just looking at a bad example of a GTR. They put the power down great and the DCT upshift is nearly instantaneous. My stock engine stock trans GTR, stock catback exhaust even, 20” wheels… I have draggy vids showing that I can just come to the stop in the middle of a road and launch; and pop off a casual 9.7 - 9.8. But there’s better cars for the money that can do that now, including a M3CX. The nicer 2017+ GTR still costs as much used as a new M3, yet still isn’t as nice a car as that M3. And if you want a 8 second street car or better than it makes more sense to build a 17+ R8. I don’t think the (S58) M3 is going to be able to surpass the R35 GTR in usable all-out street performance, but I think it will match it, be a nicer car while doing it, and require less maintenance, and less money and headache over time.

I think most people buying a GTR are not the ones worried about the high end interior and super new tech. You buy them to make fast AF with DCT. My brothers is 1300 Wheel and has been bullet proof. The aftermarket is huge for them. It's one of my favorite cars to drive.

All points true at least up to a certain point on the timeline. But here and now, there is a really big question to ask about going down that road with one; Why? Nostalgia, ok. But otherwise, very few good reasons. If your plan was to build a drag strip car from a clapped out CBA, better cars for that for cheaper. If the plan is to have a 9 second cruiser, M3/M4. If you want 1300+ HP 8 second or faster; R8 is path of least resistance and depending on where you stop doesn’t even need an engine or full trans build. I feel like it’s hard to find places to squeeze in a good reason to build a R35 anymore. Ya it’s a fun car; mine is my favorite to drive too, but I 100% would not do it again at this point in time.

No way that X3M has 800 hp, more like 650-700 max. It would run in the 9’s with 800!

I would pick the Nissan over the R8 everyday of the week if your building it. Of course there are tons of cars to choose if your building something for low 9's high 8's. I am looking to acquire an R-34 so I can have it built to my spec and be ready to roll when the 25 year mark hits. .

I can respect your choice and preference. I just still maintain my original sentiment.. there isn’t a great logical reason to build one anymore. But of course people will continue to want them. They were the car to have for a while.

No doubt. I love driving my brothers. So many people hate on them so it's so much fun to just destroy people in it.

Personally still love the R35 GTR it will go down as one of the all time greats. Hell, I would even consider a nice R34.

They get an interesting amount of hate. Probably just due to being the king of the hill street car for so long. I know personally I found the R35 scene to be annoying; how for years it felt like every 48 hours there is a new record, complete with 30 minute video celebrating another thousandth of a second progress in the 1/4 mile evolution.. and it just got hard to keep giving a shit. lol, but I can be a grinch like that. I honestly had no interest in the platform until one day I woke up and said I want an AWD DCT.. and in that moment, it was still the one to go with.

Let em hate. You have a legend. One doesn't always have to chase the newest/fastest.. The R35 put the world on notice, and will always be revered. Comments like "yeah but an "EV" will..." personally, I could give a damn LOL

Great video with stratospheric entertainment value. Practical application of lessons learned - still stuck somewhere on the ground.
