2022 Daytona Violet X3M

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I don't really like to create threads for new cars, but given the "rarity" of the color, I figured I'd post to let everyone in on the ownership experience of the car.

Background:
I'm actually coming into the X3M by way of a 2020 X3M. Despite the crazy fantastic deal I got on the car, there were a few things that I didn't love. First, was the color. I just cannot stand black cars: they're hard to maintain and a little boring for my tastes. For context, over the last four years, I've had an Austin Yellow F80, Misano Blue x2 M35, Nitro Yellow Toyota Supra, Melbourne Red M235, and the black x3m.

The other gripe with the x3m, was the seating position. Given that my car was a non-comp pack, it also came with the non M-Sport seats. As such, I felt like a UPS truck driver, sitting well above an ideal seating position. As a frame of reference, on the non-M x3s, the seats let you go much lower, too.

Finally, I wasn't too keen on the low end torque, but that's not a significant issue as I could get around that by way of driving style.

Lateral Moves:
Despite the above, many of my car friends see this as a lateral move. And, while it may be to a certain degree, there's a few things that make this car feel a bit more than a lateral move.

Rather than detail the differences/reasons, I'll bullet them out:

1) Financial Incentive - a few (not all) BMW dealers were offering me a TON on my trade and this dealer came in at the highest net trade-in value. For comparison, Vroom wanted 8k less than what I was offered by this BMW.

2) Negotiating on Dealer Markup - Yes, I paid markup. I'd rather not say, but let's say the dealer and I met at a place that I was happy to pay and they were happy to accept.

3) Individual color - colors matter to me and this car was a great way to get into an individual color without waiting however long I needed to wait for it. It also had ALL the specs I wanted (executive, ventilated seats, comp pack, black calipers). It's missing a wireless charger, but that wireless charger never really worked too well in my 2020.

3) 2022 vs 2023 pricing - 2023 model year cars are higher by comparison and so now I get the car that I want now without paying the premium (which was technically washed out the the markup but it made me okay with eating a markup).

4) Low-End Torque - I can feel the difference, even with giving it mild throttle inputs.

5) Comp Exhaust - I love the way this sounds from the factory; the non comp models have a muffled exhaust that's really uncharacteristic of a sports vehicle

6) Comp package - and on that note of the exhaust, the comp package overall offers a significant advantage by way of driving feel. At least that's the impression I get from my 50 or so miles behind the wheel on some twists and turns.

7) Features - android auto and ventilated seats are a must on any car

Pictures:
Fresh photos are to come, but here are teasers... (note, I had issues uploading vertically oriented photos so these will suffice for now).

Yeah, can you PM me the window sticker, please! Also, the Marina Bay Blue has recently been sold as I saw it outside and asked about it and they said it's no longer in stock.

Not sure how much ADM you were willing to pay, though. The dealer was adamant about not budging. All said, I managed to get a nice chunk of it negotiated off but it required four back and forths and a credit pull. They also threw it back at me on the rate.

There was another curious thing which was the tax situation. For some reason the paperwork suggests that my lease from CT was a tax credit towards NJ, BUT I ended up maying full NJ taxes. So not sure if the dealer was working some stuff on their end but the good news is that I have proof that I paid NJ taxes if anyone comes asking.

100 Mile Update:

After driving the car for 100 miles, I can confidently say that it is a vast improvement over the 2020. I know what you're all wondering: how's that even possible?

Let me begin by saying that the suspension tuning is the largest contributor to that perception. It soaks up bumps and quietly rides over the pavement by comparison. Now, this could be a byproduct of the tires: P Zeros (on the 20s) vs SportContact 6s, but 21s are almost always bumpier than 20s and I don't believe this car ever came with run flats.

I took the car through it's back road paces and I felt so much more confident driving it as compared to my older x3m. It's probably due to the seating position that I posted earlier, but goodness was it much more enjoyable to drive than the other car. Plus, the seats are WAY more comfortable.

The low-end torque actually helps, too. With the car feeling like it doesn't need as much input to get it up and going. I will note that there was never an issue with the low-end torque on the x3m to begin with, but more torque is always a welcome addition.

I moved from 2019 X3M Comp to A 22 LCI X4M Comp and I 100% agree with your comments on both torque and handling / suspension.

I'd add that there is a subtle difference between the X3M and X4M too, with the X4M having a slightly lower centre of gravity and for me anyway less roll / weight transfer.

Really love the differences - all positive to me except in the UK we lost the ventilated seats which is annoying as I loved them.

Absolutely love your colour - probably the best I've seen on an X3M

I thought I was crazy when I realized the differences. Fascinating to see how much these cars can change with a few tweaks; I think I wouldn't have sold my old x3m if it behaved the way this car does.

This color is sick! There was another forum member who got another Purple individual color.

You should look into an aftermarket exhaust. It really wakes it up. (PM Bmock17 for info if interested.
