the big fail here is only 400 km of range! Why bother making it with less than 500 km? BMW is better than that... at least they used to be. Not sure I feel good about it being made in China either.

So basically they wasted billions on the i3 and i8 program, developing all carbon body/chassis.

Now they are just going to use traditional chassis for their electric cars.

Similar range to the Jaguar i-pace. Although the Jag looks miles better.

Sure BMW, let's just kill off all of the BMW trademarks; first it was the quad circular headlights with the new Z4, followed by the hofmeister kink with the M8 GC, and now the final nail being this god awful twin kidney grille. Make them all FWD or AWD and we can officially call this brand dead as we knew it.

Scott about the new I grille:

The sensors etc are located in the grille to allow for a smoother front end aerodynamically therefore increasing efficiency.
I can't even say how this marketing vocabulary makes me feel...
Yeah, from what I can see, is full of sensors, cameras and GoPro.
And even if they are behind, I understand to eliminate the vertical lines in the nostrils, but obviously there was no need to cut the middle section of the BMW iconic grille.
They chopped that grille and now it looks like a Chinese copy.

And that lower air grille looks like a dumb smiling mouth. BMW Pixar.

I don't think it looks bad and the grill still looks like the twin kidneys, IMO. I just wonder if it would have been wiser to use the X4 as the basis for the new i SAV. The i-Pace and the upcoming Audi & Mercedes electric SUVs just come across as more visually... dynamic.

I still think it looks like a "cool pair of shades" . Fill in that center giving us the kidneys back and we might have something...

I am wondering as to why the i3 & i8's exterior styling have nothing to do with the normal range yet this iX3 is close to the regular X3. I thought this iX3 will have a different design language much closer to the i3 & i8.

What gives? . The grille is a nice touch.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Mixed Feelings

While I am happy they are getting on with things and that the car is the correct shape, I have issues with the fact that as a performance brand in a segement that appears to be obsessed with straightline speed they have effectively introduced an underpowered car.

Jaguar has answered Tesla so why not BMW?

The other thing is styling which could have been more radical in line with the electric car ethos.

Clearly that is a REx Model

It has a charge port on the drivers side fender and a gas door on the right rear quarter panel. .

Range Extender.

The All Electric iX3 will only have the charge-port on the front fender.
