2022 x4m comp tune

So any solutions of tuning it. Heard DME can’t be unlocked. What are some other options? Pretty new to this. My last 2020 X4M had stage 2 but I took over my friends car which was tuned already. BOOTMOD3? That will work on my 2022. Help and guidance will be appreciated

Thank You

Yes it can be unlocked. Remove dme and send to FEMTO, use tuner of choice

Your only other option if you're unable to remove dme is a piggyback tune I believe.
I'm in the same boat. I want a tune but don't want the hassle of removing dme, shipping, and waiting to be shipped back. Thinking about race chip or Dinan.

Yup, FEMTO is in the EU. Finland IIRC. Removing the DME isn't all that hard, but the unlock is costly. $1,500 I think. That's how we used to do it before OBD tuning was a thing.

Ya don’t want to do that. Has to be another solution. Race chip or dinan what’s the process? Costly?

both are easy plug and play options and will give you a nice power increase over stock. Great additions whichever you choose

Can the dealer tell if you had a piggyback installed?

Just a word of warning to those who understand tuning, none of the piggyback tuners for S58 are actually piggyback tuners. They are simply hijacking boost control and hiding true boost from the DME. You are just leaning on knock feedback and o2 feedback for the tuning. I’m not saying it doesn’t work… the OEM protection strategies are obviously quite refined as lots of x3M and M3/4 are doing quite well. But it just bugs me that these products are pretending to be tuners.

I think you're talking about the JB4.

And Dinan and Racechip. After examining the installation and realizing this is all they do, I personally bought a racechip because I get pricing on them through a wholesale center I already work with. It did it’s job as expected but I am going to remove it any day now and sell it and send my DME out for unlocking so I can turn it up further and do it the right way.

It's no secret what the piggybacks do.........

Pick up a used Racechip for ~$300. Gets the job done, but as said it is not nearly as good as a real tune. But it is easily removable and the dealer likely never knows.

I plugged an ECUTEK OBD Bluetooth dongle into my x3m and opened the phone app. Literally hundreds of parameters are logging. There are so many, it is overwhelming. Some of them almost comical that the DME is actually logging. There was no shortage of parameters in there that would make it extremely easy to tell the car is making more power than intended. Aside from the usual suspects like fuel injection, it’s logging environmental conditions and acceleration etc. I’m sure you could probably get away with an extra 30-40HP for occasional use, as they likely have some give for the occasional exceptional circumstances. But I think they can easily tell when your averaging well beyond their decided thresholds

Yup...this stuff keeps coming up at nauseum. People thinking unplugging a piggyback still works. If the repair needs approval from the motherland, the car gets deep scanned...you are done at that point.

Input from a master tech

https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=56

Summary of the issue explained by a well known tuner...dme tune, piggyback, it does not matter. Read "Void Warranty Vs "Detectability""

Your links refer to a flash tune. Of course a flash tune is detectable.
JB4 is not a flash tune. I work at a dealership and yet to hear of one being “detected” without actually seeing it with your own eyes.
This has always been discussed - more with Audi and VW than anything. Had an Audi RS with JB4 and had $30K worth of warranty work without it being detected.
Urban myth - assuming it is installed and removed correctly.

No shit it's not a flash tune. VAG is not BMW, so unless you are a BMW Master tech, using newest versions of ISTA...thanks for your opinion...again discussed at nauseum

Here is a good little short video that explains the current situation:

Probably doing the Carbahn on my X3M. This locked DME is BS but whatever. Can't be too pissed - won't do me any good.
