That just happened to me last week for the first time. Spouse got of the car to go pick his up after service was done, & I got a message that said that key was missing. I'm wondering if it was sensing his key somehow? My purse was behind the driver's seat, so perhaps it was too far to register? It didn't affect my CarPlay, though. Was very weird.

I got the "key missing" warning the other day. It had me hold the key next to the wheel twice. It then didn't lock with the comfort access. Had to use the remove. I did have extra stuff in the pocket with the key, but I often do.
PS: Mine's an older build so maybe the battery is getting weak.

Oh and my car key always sits on the wireless charging pad below the ac control. Pretty sure the issue is not the key battery since it never goes below half. I haven't contacted the dealer. Really annoying tho… |

I have a 2019 530i that I bought a month ago. It had 30k miles and was a CPO. I'm returning it to the dealer as the vehicle has the key missing message followed by carplay disconnecting. They've had it 5 times and can't figure it out. They've updated the software, replaced all the keys, replaced the BDC, and the antenna. Nothing has helped. Thankfully they're letting me return it for a full refund plus $800. I'm buying a new Lexus from their sister dealer. Anyone actually get a fix for this?

For those of you having this issue, do any of you keep your wallet in the same pocket as your fob? I am not sure about the CarPlay part but maybe a RFID-blocking sleeve around your driver's licence (or built into the wallet) is causing interference with the fob.

I keep mine in the cup holder. But I can trigger the key missing alert with several things (such as opening the trunk using the switch on the door, a passenger opening a door, etc).
