(Dumb) question re: paddle shifting
Let's say I am just cruising around doing errands and I want to paddle shift for a stretch of road. How do I get the transmission back to full auto? On my Jeep and ZL-1 it was simply a matter of holding down the + paddle for a few secs and then they both returned to auto mode. On the 2022 X3MC this doesn't appear to work, unless I am missing something.

from my recollection, if you are in Auto (D) and you press on one of the paddles, you will be able to control shifting for a short period of time. On the Instrument cluster, the gear will be highlighted but "D" will still be there. Give it a few seconds under cruise and it should return to full Auto mode (D is then highlighted).
Obviously, if you hit the shifter to the right, D disappears and it is in full sequential mode. You will have to push the level to the right again to bring it back to Automatic (D) mode.

As mentioned, if you start in auto and just hit the paddle, it will go back to auto fairly quickly on its own. But it should also do it if you hold the right paddle a few seconds. |

Seems like there are three ways to do everything
In addition to the above, if you went into manual shifting via an M button, you can press the same button again to go back to settings you were in previously. |

Keep in mind this only works if you were in full auto at first, and then using the paddle shifters and then holding the + paddle. It DOES NOT work if you bump it into manual mode with the shifter or if you decide to shift it manually with the shifter from full auto. |

As what others already said.
But, there is another way to get it back to Auto shift faster, it is by hitting the + and - paddle at the same time and it will put you into Auto. I have to be careful with this, because in Porsche PDK, it actually put me into Neutral. Accidentally did that a few times on my Porsche, lol.

If you are on Auto, just press any of the paddle to go into manual. No need to press both paddle.
You only shift the gear shifter to be on full manual mode.

So I did some testing, and here's what I found.
Grabbing the paddles will put you into manual shift mode. To get out of it, you can either: 1. Grab both + and - paddles simultaneously, or 2. Bump the shifter to the right twice. Either way works. You might return to full auto after a certain interval of time without paddle shift inputs, but it didn't happen for me. Might have needed more time, not sure. |
