Best Run Flat Tire

Hi Everyone,

There have been several topics on the best non-rft however since my wife drives it more I would like to keep the RFTs. My Pirelli P7 All Seasons are almost at their life's end. What run flat tyre would people suggest and why?

Bridgestone Driveguard...if they have size for your car.

Why: read numerous positive reviews/comments from the F30 crowd.

Just keep in my RFT tires will drive very rough, get bad fuel consumption, and make the X3 corner like a boat.

It's like buying a new vehicle putting normal performance all season tires on.

What is almost life's end on yours?
I'm at 65% usage with only 18K miles.

Scout10 I'm at ~5/32 and at 22K miles. When I read that is about average.

Riick I understand that performance wise its not the best but I have to think a bit differently then if I was primarily driving the car.

It looks like the Bridgestone Driveguard doesn't come in the size I need 245/50R18. Does anyone have any other suggestions for an X3?

Went with Michelin Primacy 245/45 R19 all season RFTs recently. Smoother ride than what I had on the car before...but they don't wear as long and are a bit on the pricy side. I'd check TireRack for 18" brands, performance category comparisons, and buyer feedback.

Riick wouldn't understand. He's only 16 and hasn't even have a girlfriend, much less a wife.

BTW, I've been looking at these tires. Don't know if I'll finally settle on them but they're in the running:

I went with the Micheline Primacy MXM4 Run Flat tire. So far it seems a bit quieter then the Pirelli's I had. Funny enough, the concern I had about not-having a spare came to light this week. Thank goodness for the RF. My wife was driving and a huge bolt/metal object got lodged in the tire. The run-flats worked as designed and she was able to continue her commute back home.

Drive rough and corner like a boat at the same time? Seems like one counters the other.

I have a 2021 X3M40i with 6600 miles 1 1/2 years old. 21 inch run flats. Had a flat tire yesterday. Tread is worn on all 4 tires. Have never had to replace 4 tires this quickly. Any recommendations from past experience what is the best all season run flat that might get more mileage?

That's way beyond normal. Even fast wearing tires should hit 20,000 miles.

Do you maybe have an alignment issue? Or, no offense, do you drive crazy?

I tend to wear out front tires a little quick form cornering at slightly above average speeds but can't imagine all tires going so quickly.

I'd consider asking the dealer about it - if they gave you a car with crap alignment, maybe they'll help out on the new tires? Or even give some to you at cost as a goodwill gesture.

You might want to post in the G01 forum as that is the forum for your car.

Michelins were massively quieter and smoother than the Pirellis before them. Massively.

I sell tires.

The best run flat overall is the Michelin Primacy MXM4 ZP. Quietest, smoothest, longest lasting. Good grip/performance.

Next best is the Pirelli Cinturato P7 RFT. Excellent performance overall, but the tread doesn't wear very well. I've seen some come back to my shop completely worn after 30k miles.

The Pirelli Pzero Run Flat is a great performance option, but they'll be done after about 20k miles.

I wouldn't even consider the goodyear or bridgestones as options.

Honestly, you'd be better off ditching the run flats and going with an all season or ultra high performance tire. It will completely transform the car.

Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus is one of the best options. Also, the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4. The non-run flat P7 is a great tire. Again, I'd avoid Goodyear and Bridgestone, just because the siping on their tires only lasts for about 20k miles, and then the tire is pretty much useless on wet roads.
