Yesterday my x3 started making an odd noise. Like when you walk out to unlock the car that sound when the air struts come on is now a clicking rather than the cool woosh of air it used to make. It aslo sounds different when you open and close the boot door with an odd clicking.

DId a seal in the air struts break or something?

I don't understand this either. What part of an X3 makes a whooshing sound when you unlock it? X3s don't have air suspensions, so you must be talking about something else.

The woosh is the fuel pump priming.
