"Walk away locking"

I have tried everything to enable the function that should automatically lock the doors when I walk away from the car and unlock upon return (yes, including reading the manual...). Is there something I'm missing here?

Thanks.

That is only part of Comfort Access 2.0, which is only found on the SP18 architecture like on the LCI models.

So unfortunately it's not included in Pre-LCI, which is based off the SP15 architecture.

do you have it enabled?

if you do and its not working bring it into service

i had issues with mine where it wasnt registering and there was an issue with the body domain unit or something like that

they replaced it and it worked everytime after that got fixed or replaced.

I do have it enabled, and thanks for the suggestion of bringing it back to the dealer. When I had looked in the manual (page 95), it seemed to say that the car was capable of auto locking, but I thought maybe the manual had been written for a later version of iDrive.

Page 93 (Online PDF for the X3 M) shows Automatic Locking and Unlocking when driving away and when parking.

bSwiazzy may have thought their 2021 X3M has it, but because it is an SP15 production vehicle, it is not equipped with Comfort Access 2.0 which allows for approach and departuing automatic locking and unlocking. Hence only the 2022+ have been transplanted to SP18 like the rest of the line up and would only support it.

I did note that they had an M340i before, which was an SP18 production vehicle. Therefore their G20 M340i would have had Comfort Access 2.0 which may be where they're coming from.

OK, you seem to understand this better than a dealer tech would! But why does the manual say that my car has this feature??

because the owner's manual encompasses all models regardless of what the cover shows. we get this all the time "well I read it in the owner's manual"

They don't. If you read above they state that 2021 and older do not have it. Only LCI will get comfort access 2.0.

Funny how everyone is supposed to "read the owner's manual, idiot".
