Interesting. For me they just said it had too much, drained it, and, refilled, and that was the end of it, but I had this done a few weeks ago, so I suppose it's possible there was no bulletin out on it yet.

So is this a combination of software bug AND too much oil?

Software fix changes how the car handles the situation. It either will say overfill as opposed to unknown level or it will allow 7L and not throw an error. I suspect it will allow the 7L to not throw an error.

Software fix will be in the March bundle.

I just got this message yesterday. The oil measurement read at max when I tested through iDrive.

I am still a bit confused though; does this only happen when the oil is overfilled or can it happen even if the level is normal due to software?

In another thread, people have claimed a dealer trip wasn't required but sounds like it is regardless of cause (oil overfill vs. software).

I recently had the oil changed at the dealer on Dec 22nd and have about ~200 miles on it since then.
