M Performance Driving School. Anyone done it recently?
I'm curious to hear anyone's opinions experiences with it? I am considering signing up for the 2 day M School and traveling to the East Coast Track in Greer, SC.
Were we supposed to get a voucher of some sort for the M Driving school when buying an M product or is that the M drivers package option that I think I saw? The gal was saying we were supposed to get some sort of voucher and then it would allow me to get the 2 day package for the 1 day price. BMW is doing the Ultimate Driving Experience here in Denver this weekend. This was pretty fun, getting to drive the M235i and the 340i on a Autocross track, also had some BMW Demo's to take out. Most exciting was the X3M which obviously was not that exciting since I daily drive it. Had X5 M50i X6 M50i some of the e models and a M340i. The X6 rear visibility is horrendous I don't know how anyone would like that. the M340i I was super impressed by, it was a blast to drive and sounded awesome. The new M3 is going to be badass. At this event they were offering a 20% discount on the Driving school packages. I am wanting to do the Two Day M School and this discount made it more attractive. I have done something similar with my SRT Jeep Purchase in AZ it was a free 1 day track experience driving all the different hellcats it was a ton of fun. I would love to get behind the wheel of some of the other M cars and they said next year they will have the new M3 there too. I'm hoping to do a factory tour and whatever else is fun around that area. |

My two day M School was 8 years ago but I've done a 1 day BMW CCA club M School last fall in SC.
Cars used were M2 Comp, M4 Comp, M5 Comp, and M850i. I heard the M8 may be in some exercises now, replacing the out of production M4. Morning sessions were skid pad, rat race (2 cars chasing each other), autocross lapping in the M2, and one more I can't recall. Afternoon sessions were figure 8 drifting practice, timed autocross, and lapping exercises with the M4 & M5. And of course hot lap rides with the instructors. Just when you think you've got it figured out..... But no chance to try their techniques afterwards. All were instructed via in car radios, no instructors in the cars. They are quite good spotting your bad habits. The regular M School is the same but fewer attendees and more track time. The 2 day program adds to that car control exercises, and more lapping time on the full track. The west coast version is similar but I believe adds more on-track exercises in place of the skid pad. The freebee program would be a subset of the 1 day, probably fewer full Ms but I think you can apply a credit to the M Schools.

Note Spartanburg has an off road section for X models, a fun exercise. You put the X models (X3 or X5) through all sorts of hills and descents and drive through a water trough. It may be part of the freebee day in place of more track time.

If you're a track rat already, it may seem a little elementary but its still fun and its their cars you get to push hard and consume tires and brakes.

I did do a couple searches but did not find anything recent. The search function is a bit cumbersome for me so I may not have used it correctly. I’m very excited to check it out. |
